Yeah. Um. How does it happen? I'm on contract, and I receive 100MB every month, then my internet cuts off, unless I load data bundles. But I've noticed something odd this month, I can access the Internet with 0 balance of airtime and data. I've downloaded some stuff. But now I'm in fear that I might get billed. Question is: Could I? Every month I get billed R89. I don't grasp how I can get billed though.

They will probably charge you R2 per meg (oh & don't forget +14% VAT).

So your next bill will be R89 + ?x

you're on contract so they'll bill you afterwards. Remember what you use this month is only due end of April....

If Khanya is on topup, it should cut-off and they cannot bill him extra if his internet doesn't cut off.

Want to bet?

Even if you are on TOPUP, MTN will just bill you...and you will have to fight, with their eventual excuse that you used the data/phonecall etc.

So how could that happen? If you want to add a once-off bundle to your topup line, how do you do that? Do you have to load extra airtime first and convert, or do you get billed afterwards? What's the point of topup then?

$hit! I'd own MTN R50,000.00 if that's the case.

Top-up? What that means? when I don't have airtime, I can't call. When I have no data bundles, I can't use the Internet.

All of the above yet another reason why sensible users don't go contract -- it really makes no sense in SA these days unless you absolutely need the 'free' (actually non-free) modem that comes with some contracts.

Top-up is a hybrid "contract". They debit your account monthly and you get a set amount of airtime Rands. When it's finished, you have buy prepaid vouchers and load to call more.

But the big question here is how does it work with data bundles? How do you load them? With extra prepaid airtime in Rands and then convert to a bundle or do you just call 808 and ask them to load it (with the higher monthly bill to follow)?

I get credited R100 airtime every month. After that's depleted I can't call anymore; thus have to purchase airtime.
Same with data - I get credited 100MB every month. After that's depleted I can't use the Internet no more. In which case I have to load other data bundles.

Every month I get billed one amount: R89.00.

But now I can access the Internet with R0.00 airtime and 0MB of data.

If this sim card was prepaid, I wouldn't be concerned, but now it's contract...

Did you load any extra bundles? Is the 100 MB bundle a monthly inclusive bundle part of the original offer you signed up for?

calling 808 will not help, they pretty much useless....I am on a top up as well, at the moment, I am running on a 60 day billing cycle with useless MTN, i tried once to get a better understanding about this....epic fail....no one could answer, why I only get billed every 60 days, what happened to the month on month billing cycle.....debit still goes off, correct amount and all but on their system I am a payment behind....

Call them and find out wtf is going on... don't remain 'ignorant'... the last thing you'd want is a long-drawn out fight with them which you might lose and which could also harm your credit record.

Yeah 100MB is what I signed up for, and no, I didn't purchase any data.

Yeah. Also noticed on the billing letter I got billed R178, that's for 2 months. Don't wanna get a R30,000 surprise bill.

I'll do. I presume it's 808?
