MTN contract renewed without my consent

MTN renewed my data contract, for another 2 years; cost me R7K. I had to request a cancellation; no question of a refund.

That is MTN for you.

Ok so an update.

Received confirmation that the number has been blacklisted and contract cancelled, charges credited.

Color me (slightly) impressed.

hopefully it is not your own active number, but the number of the sim in that illegally gained device...

It was a tablet contract which was expiring this month, so no real impact on me luckily. But i will not be renewing my other mtn contracts seeing how someone has access to my subscriber info

Says no duplicate in my case, good thing i guess, but still a fake ID doc exists with my name on it :mad:

I would be very scared if I were you. This means the guy can go and open credit at all the stores on your name. Its a nightmare to sort out.

My friend actually had this happen to him. He lost his ID in a mall or shop and when he wanted to apply for credit he got declined due to blacklisting. He had R65 000 worth of credit on his name from stores like Bears,African Bank, Lubners,Edgars and Truworths. 1 year later he is still battling to get it fixed. Takes a signed affidavit and copy of case if he wants anything on credit....
 
So MTN refunded me, all sorted.

Today i get a call from Ackermans, why am i not paying my account. The pr1ck opened an account in my name. What the heck must i do to stop this happening again???!?!
 
Im thinking closing my bank account as a minimum to close off that avenue

That will probably be best, But sooo much of hassle on your end!

Did you ask the bank what will be the best case scenario in a situation like this?

And that's awesome you got refunded :)
 
Im waiting for an email from Ackermans stating what information was used in this case. At MTN the guy had a version of my ID, and thats all it took, no wonder they refunded me.

if you renew they do not request banking stuff, just ID.
