MTN data blackout during certain hours

Hi all;

I am from the Mitchell's Plain region. During the hours of 9-11pm, I just cannot use MTN's data network. It always gives me the error: "network not available". This has been going on for months, and everyday, consistently, the data network is just unavailable. Outside those hours it works perfectly.

Calls work fine.

Does anyone know what is going on?

I've seen this many times recently too. MTN reliability seems to be on the decline. When it does work it's decent though. Also there have been times in the evening when my phone says Emergency Calls Only.

High data load in Cape Town area

The current issues around data connectivity in the Cape Town area between 9pm and 11pm are due to high processor load on the SGSN. Additional hardware has already been procured and is awaiting delivery in April. MTN is actively monitoring this and traffic is being re-directed via Durban and Johannesburg to help alleviate the load on the SGSN. The traffic growth in Cape Town has been tremendously higher than expected since the activation of the higher HSPA speeds that has lead to this scenario.

a few weeks ago i had the exact same thing happen to me in the Pretoria Area!

I was very frustrated... and as usual assumed immediately it was somehing to do with my hardware! Resulting in re-installing stuff... etc etc

basically wasting my time...

Why can't mtn have some sort of a network error website to inform users of various areas and places which might be experiencing errors, and whether it's in fact MTN's fault - or for instance an international link that's down somewhere!

Otherwise everybody automatically just blames MTN (after PAINSTAKINGLY checking every bit of their own hardware 1st)

How will you access the website if your connection is down? :)

well.... yes - as sad as that may be, lots of companies do this, and sometimes it would be a DNS server that's down... so it will try to load... fail... try again... etc etc... and then after a few minutes of waiting for it... eventually show the site.

That, generally is the main problems i'm experiencing with MTN's Data side. And then when i phone up 1555, they just tell me they're not experiencing any problems...

i think it'll at least be a service which lets the users know that mtn is willing to admit when there are problems, i don't think Vodacom has something like that

Mrs Dragons MTN service is also on holiday from time to time - one of my duties (other than guarding gold) is consumer issues - all service providers have their issues - do wish someone would answer the E220 thread I posted, it is information needed for a complaint - don't think I could have made it any more simple - 40+ reads not one reply

Service unavailable please try later

I keep on getting this annoying message when browsing this forum on my phone. Happens any time of day. After reloading a couple of times the page loads eventually. Is this the same problem?

I live in a rural area called Boons, about half hour from Rustenburg. The MTN voice network used to drop every evening from 7pm to 10pm, I complained and it was fine for a few weeks, now its off every Thursday and Sat/Sunday night. Problem is I can't log in when this happens as the voice network must be up for userid/password validation on the old E620 Fastlink datacard. I must use this for minimum data speed loss. So I can't use the network during these times. Is this load shedding as there are a few people using it? Is there a solution?
