Any idea what graph's being used there? I quite like the packet loss bit.

MTN has provided some feedback - the article has been updated.

“The MTN Business Network Operations Centre is aware of the problem being experienced by certain sites hosted in the Gallo Manor data centre. An increase in latency is currently being experienced on a particular segment within the data centre and is due to excessive traffic being generated across that segment by specific customer servers, possibly due to system malfunction, denial of service attack or compromise. Further investigations into this matter are underway and MTN Business are currently working to resolve this issue soonest.”

I would have thought they had safeguards in place to prevent one customer from affecting the services of all other customers.

I would like to know who's servers was responsible for this...

has the issue been resolved?is this why their systems cant do sim swops?

Yes, they should have. And I find the reason they gave unacceptable. Anyone here remember how Sentech blamed their uncapped wireless customers for their service degradation? When it turned out they had an open proxy being abused by capped ADSL users?

I reckon the same thing is happening there. Someone over there ****ed up. Either that of MTN is unable to run a data center and if I were Hetzner I'd seriously consider moving to someone like Teraco who appears to know WTF they're doing. Since no DC in this world has ever had so many problems with uptime like MTN has had.... and, if memory serves, The Planet's DC caught fire a couple of years ago *only causing those with 1 PSU to go down* since they know how to run a DC. But *every damn year* MTN has some kind of issue.

lolwhut?

MTN makes a profit - so how come they can't use that money to deliver a proper service then?

Or is their shareholders more important than delivering an actual decent service?

Might be time to look at alternative DC's then.

Speculation - might be that somebody's server got infected with a poxy spambot - and it degraded the service for others.
