MTN Data Share officially launched

Well here are some FACTS.

*Contract customers can share their data bundles with prepaid and Contract customers.
*Prepaid customers can share their data bundles with other prepaid users or contract customers.

Once the data bundle has been depleted the numbers that is is sharing it's data with will no longer have access to the net so there is no OOB charges. Only the main number can go out of bundle not the numbers he is sharing to.

Once your number is linked to the "data sharer" data usage would count to that shared bundle and your airtime or data bundle will NOT be depleted unless you unlink yourself or the "data sharer" unlinks your number at which point you will get a sms saying you have been delinked or linked.

Data share is a free service. You only pay for the data that will be shared.

Max 20 linked numbers which you can link or delink at any time via the website or the string *141*5#

Recurring and bundle inclusive data can also be shared.

You can check when or what bundle is being shared via *141*1#

Sorry, I have not read all the fine-print. Can I now purchase an uncapped Mobile account/sim and share it amongst 20 of my co-workers, then we just split the bill?

1. You'd get throttled in 5min.
2. This is for data bundles. Uncapped isn't a data bundle.

works well for a family... one data bundle, share between all, instead of data bundle for each that may not get fully used

This and finally no need for sim cloning or dual call 2 just to share the data between your own devices..

Question now is.. Does MTN allow you to have multiple contracts on the same main device sim ?? Albeit this is kinda negated due to fact that you could share from 2ndary to main I guess

Now that Afrihost has dropped double data, I'm thinking of getting an MTN data bundle to share between my phone and mi-fi. I haven't read the legalese though, are there any downsides to doing this, and can I use my Afrihost mi-fi with an MTN SIM?

And does anyone know if the MTN MyChoice Internet Plans are eligible for this?

mifi works, and any MTN plan is available.

That's the kind of fine print that's really useful to know. I would potentially look for a really good data only deal like this and then use it with a prepaid SIM in my phone, and if it doesn't work it loses a lot of its lustre.

Did they give you any broader idea of which contracts would and wouldn't be allowed?

Got similar package for R99.. Gonna cancel if unsupported.. This is a new service so would be in the fine print of the data share service..

I see they made the name friendly .. Details on MTN website.. They mention applicable contracts so guess check which contract u have?
