MTN Data Share officially launched

For once, an offering from MTN where you don't have to study the fine print.

Has anyone studied the fine print so we know that to be true?

its not all new... we've been able to share data between simcards for a while (one account, separate simcards/devices) so can take a big bundle and share the data, instead of having several data accounts that dont get to use all the data allocation.

but if this allows an account holder to share data with non related simcards (people on other MTN accounts not related to the sharer) this could be quite useful.
strange... not like cellular providers to allow them to loose money like this.... this will undoubtedly lead to reduction in data accounts... maybe they decided, instead of loosing customers, lets rather loose a bit of data :)

I buy my MTN Data via Afrihost as it's cheaper than buying directly from MTN itself. I wonder if you can share MTN Data via Afrihost with another user? I highly doubt it. I'm just asking by chance...

works well for a family... one data bundle, share between all, instead of data bundle for each that may not get fully used

This could be useful enough that I'm now interested in the fine print.

If I'm on a prepaid phone sharing data from a contract phone and the data runs out, does it:
* Use the OOB data from the contact?
* Use the OOB data from the prepaid phone?
* Block data access entirely?

Are the rules different if a prepaid phone is sharing with a contract?

If you already have a small bundle on the contract as part of a package and you share from someone elses data, will it use their data before using your own bundle? (i.e. could you do an OOB protection thing for a group of people on small data packages)

Is there any way to see how much data each SIM card has used? I can understand maybe if it doesn't exist for sharing prepaid data but would it be included somehow in the itemized bill of a contract?

and since two of those questions includes the word OOB..... does anyone still think MTN will be losing money on this?

With any SA cell provider you have to do that ...religiously and carefully. They are conmen of the worst kind!
