MTN Data Technical Thread

Am trying this, which option is 3G though...
There are MMS, WAP, Both, Video Calling and Video Streaming as options under 1. Phone Setup

Is it one (both?) of the Video calling or Video streaming options?

The 3G Setting's is the same as the normal GPRS settings if that is what your referring to. If not and your talking about the video calling PM me your number and I'll have HSCSD activated on your SIM.

3G the same as the GPRS settings? hhhmmm, ok.
Where can I go and do a speedtest?

No worries, I used *123# and activated from there, Video Calling just took a bit to come back with a success message.
Video streaming went through relatively quickly.

I now have four connection access points setup:
MTN-DATA
MTN GPRS
MTN MMS
MTN-WAP

Perfect. Either is fine. I use MTN GPRS.

try the MYADSL speed test links.

edit: 1 more thing. Make sure your phone is set on the Dual mode (Network setting)

Where is the myadsl speed test links or must I just search for it?
Link will be nice ;)

I specifically set it on UMTS cause I only want it to connect on that... won't it work?

Quick question. As you know, I am new to MTN. Using a Nokia 6680 3G as a modem and the APN was set to "internet". The speeds that I have been getting have not been great. I tried setting the APN to myMTN and the download speeds seem to have improved quite a bit. Would this make difference or is this purely coincidence?

Thanks

Purely coincidence

Ok, thanks. Probably just the time of day then WRT the number of users on at the time etc.

Just for interest sakes in case someone brings it up in the future again. I thought I was going crazy or something but the speeds have really increased quite drastically and I will explain why. As I stated, I was using the Nokia 6680 as a modem, with the phone on Dual mode thereby covered by the 3G network.

To connect I was using the Vodaphone "Dashboard" program supplied with the Vodaphone E620 card, with the phone as an "other modem" within this program, so that I could track data usage per session etc.

It turns out that this program was not allowing the 3g network but only gprs /edge, even though the phone was set on 3G. I discovered this when I used the Nokia connect program within the Nokia PC suite and set the connection to MTN. The PC suite automatically set the APN to myMTN, which was the reason for my previous question.

After a bit of testing and speed tests etc under the various programs, I discovered the difference was not the APN but indeed the program used to connect to the net.

As I said, just something that i am putting out there in case someone does have the same situation in the future, which may happen because of the MNP and people having the connection programs of other networks until they can get the MTN one etc. :)

Thanks for that and you have thought me something today
