Hi Guys,

I purchase a 1 GB data bundle on a prepaid card (easier to control) i use Netmeter to log my usage, the weird thing is Netmeter measures my usage at 500mb and MTN notifies me that my data is finished. Any idea what's wrong?

Same thing happened to me last month, 500Mb gone within 24 hrs after loading. Called 173 and they told me the system shows that i've used it.
This was on EDGE and browsing alone.
You can phone 173 but they will just give the same answer to you, and you will get none of that data back.

Can you ask MTN to look into offering a package where you pay a certain amount for voice and data? Then, we can use say 60%, 40% voice, data one month and 30%, 70% another but still be covered by the contracted amount.

Obviously, when it's used up then we pay whatever the 'out-of-bundle' amount is.

Have a look at the MyChoice and MyChoice TopUp contracts, these are available in various sizes; R75, R150 and R300, you can use the Rand value on voice, SMS or data, unused amounts roll-over to the next month.
The Top-Up version behaves like a pre-paid account: when the Rand value is depleted. With the vanilla MyChoice you'll continue to be billed, and pay at the end of the month, just like any other contract.
 
Prepaid data connect problems

Hi there,

I have a mycall 100 contract and a prepaid card which I'm now using for data, loaded myseld up with 2gb for this month and off I went. Was fine for first couple of hours but for the last two days I struggle to connect to the network and when I do I'm getting disconnected continually.

But when I throw my contract card into the modem I have none of the above problems. In trying to contact the 173 call center for the last two days everytime I select an option from the menu I get disconnected and can't talk to anyone and get a network busy error. Any info or advice?

It's a bit of a problem when you've got 2gb to blow and can't get connected long enough even to use a couple of megs (or even connected!).

Is the unrestriced APN called "MTNVPN" or "mtnvpn" or something else, As i have been provisioned for it however i still cannot connect, just get a error "connection failed" . Im using a F@stlink E220 Data Card. Thanks

My mom upgraded from the sierra aircard 775 (pcmcia) to the new usb 3g version. So i took the old pcmcia card and put it in my laptop. she lost the old software , but i downloaded it and installed the software(AirCard Watcher). Now the problem is that i cannot connect to the internet through the watcher program but if i make a call via the watcher program it works. I think i do not have the correct MTN setting on my laptop to connect to the internet. PLEASE help me
