Hi there

Is the MTN Datacards Network locked??

I have perfect Vodacom 3G reception at work and at home but no MTN 3G. I would like to buy a MTN Datacard and use a Vodacom sim in it.

It is possible?

Thanks

The cards are not network locked. I tested my MTN card with Vodacom and Cell C. No problem.

How do I know if my tower is HSDPA enabled? My MTN data card always shows 3G/HSDPA.

International Roaming

Good day,

My name is Clive

Should there be any Data or MTN related query's could I ask you to please ask you to reply in this Thread and I'll be more than happy to assist where I can.

Thanks allot

Clive

Hello Clive

I hope I have come to the right place with this query. I have a Sierra Aircard 850, which works fine with my laptop (IBM Thinkpad) here in Cape Town. International Roaming has been enabled for the relevant contract.
I recently tried to connect in Angola (Luanda), but without success. The Aircard Watcher software sees and reports a full signal strength on Unitel's GPRS network (I dont think they have anything faster up there), but will not connect. I was trying to connect with the standard default MTN connection settings.

Input from anyone who has successfully connected in Angola would be very welcome.

Many thanks & rgds.

You would have to do a live bandwidth test, and you would see from that what you connected to,

You would also be able to tell the difference from the speed of your web pages as so forth.

Good day,

When I check my list with Angola (Luanda) we do not have a GPRS nor Edge or 3G agreements with them, One way that it will work is if you got a local sim and put it into the card then it should work like a bomb.

Thanks

My speed has only a few times been more than 400kb (according to the control panel) and my pings are about 250ms. I assume that is 3g?

Well 3G is estimated at about 384kb per second so sounds like HSDPA which ranges from 400kb to a max of 1.8mb per second

Many thanks Clive - does the same hold true for Namibia, because, earlier this year, I tried to connect in Walvis Bay using a Nokia 6820 via bluetooth, with pretty much the same result ??

Is there any chance of getting a copy of the list of countries with whom MTN has GPRS/Edge/3G/HSDPA agreements ??

Thanks again & rgds

I was at MTN in Canal Walk and MTN in Cape Gate and at both places they told me that the Data Card is network locked.

Thanks for the correct info MTNDATADUDE.

What are the names of the people that told you this, could you please supply me with the names of the people and contact number's?

Cause this is not a true statement from MTN in Cape Gate and Canal Walk

Thanks MTN DD

Good day,

RYANAEA

When I tried using MyVitalAgent with my pc it disabled my Bluetooth drivers. so I'm not to happy with the software, but my boss is using a copy of Onspeed which Onspeed gave him to try out and his pretty impressed with it, so if you can find a trial version on the net I would maybe suggest you guys & gals to try it out.

Thanks MTN DD
