MTN down?

The problem i have is i just opened a contract with MTN! At first they told me that i will get my contract application approved within 24 hours. That was early on Monday morning, so it's still not approved. Apparently there is some backlogging issue...

My phone is already there, all that needs to happen is my contract application needs to be approved. I got no idea how long it will take to resolve though. Hopefully it will be done by Friday... But yeah, pretty frustrating at the moment.

:(

This is from MTN
"We have an issue with RBSGSN2, the node is doing cyclic reloads due to signaling issues that we currently have on the network , please note that our GPRS Support is attending."

"At about 19:15pm, but it was thoroughly investigated and I only got the confirmation on the problem at 20:21pm."

I noticed intermittent problems on Thursday and Friday. Saturday from about 12 pm the problems started again.

"Please note the service has been restored, was restored at 23:00pm."

BS they are still having problems today.

Hi

Where did you get this from?

Well i went and attempted to sort my MTN voice+sms reception issues out, turns out my simcard was failing! A new simcard [costing me R110] solved this issue.

There should be a warrantee for the duration of the contract on crappy simcards that fail for no reason, what's the R200 connection+sim fee for if they can't guarentee this? The sims are 99c on prepaid! .

Anyhow, the old simcard could still receive intermittently , that's why it's so difficult to determine the problem..making it seem like a network issue.

My failing simcard symptoms:
If you constantly lose reception [as in getting "no service"] , unable to send SMS at random times , missing incoming calls and only receive voice-mails and phone taking extremely long to boot with the sim in it [take it out to test], not receiving incoming SMS in a timely manner [i.e 5 hours late]....it just might be your sim. I suggest you get a prepaid sim [for 99c] to verify this if it happens enough.

My 3G reception on the other hand is still as crap as usual, but that's plain old MTN-towers/network and applies to all my simcards [that's another battle to fight, but chances are my contract will be over before it matters].

well i am having fun with mtn delaying delivery of only vodacom smses... ONLY at home.. they can take between 30 minutes and 6 hours to arrive! they have run some tests now and apparently my phone is appearing as unavailable intermittently causing the vodacom messages to retry... so just got back from collecting a new sim card so we can try.. i am not holding my hopes very high, as if it was a faulty sim card.. the problem would be everywhere... its only here at home... oh joy... and thats with one of their cell extenders sitting on my roof lol (a 4 year fight to get it installed.. but thats a whole other story!)

Hi

Let me know if the SIM swap solves the delayed Vodacom SMS issue at your place. :-)

I wonder if this delayed SMS thing is not related to this:

About 600 000 SMSes had been delayed during the final round of the competition.

Gareth Cliff said the whole affair was "completely unacceptable and a huge embarrassment", blaming cellphone networks.

..that's the Idols fiasco...

No, that had nothing to do with it. I work for a different WASP and was on support during that time, no issues or delays with networks. The networks use a different system for handset 2 handset delivering of SMS's to what we use to send / recieve with the networks.

Just general problems with MTN, that all.
