Don't know if this is available yet, but if it is, does anyone have it? I see that they claim that it could be an alternative to dsl, but I just want to know about the ping on this compared to the USB or card?!?!

has no one got a answer . . . im quite keen on the same device as im very close to a vodacom tower but ping concerns me

The B970 is available - performance (DL/UL/latency, etc.) is identical to a same spec USB/PC Card Modem.

I got one on Sunday from MTN SC in Northgate.

First impressions: documentation is sparse. It took me a while to set it up the way I like this:
(1) I set the WiFi to NOT AUTH
(2) MAC IDs for WLAN filter set to enable, all my WiFi MAC IDs were added
(3) LAN Filter set to enable with those same IDs
(4) Set Broadcast SSID to off

The reason behind this setup is so that things connect without ever having to enter long WEP/WDA whatever keys. With SSID hidden and MAC IDs set into the filters, only approved devices can connect to it and use the bandwidth.

THEN:
I wrote a little app that reports signal strength. Plugged my E170 into a laptop and walked around the house getting various readings. Found the best location for the strongest signal.

BUT:
WiFi signal reading from my Mac was at about 25%. So, I moved the B970 to its next best location. WiFi signal improved on the Mac, lost about -2db so it was a fair compromise. I will do speedtests over the weekend and post results. At the moment, the B970 is not in its optimal position because that will require a better plug point solution - I am not gonna have extensions hanging around the house, kinda defeats wireless...
