MTN Fibre data usage

What are the usual billing problems? Is there any sign of it getting better?

I don't have any other option but MTN in Lonehill.

I'm using 40Mbps VDSL at the moment, have no complaints other than the poor upload speed and the lightning susceptibility which caused some damage last Wednesday.

Waiting for the first FTTH ISP to arrive in our street, based on this thread I am really hoping it is not MTN.

The service works and so far I havent had and issue with the fibre. The billing and data allocation is a desaster had a problem every month.
if I had another choice on provider I would not go with MTN.
Speed tests below internatinal is not great at all

International speeds seem pathetic on 100/100 compared to other FTTH/ISP combos. Anyone else getting better speeds?

Meh, was so stoked but now it seems staying with DSL is actually a better option.

I agree the billing and data allocation hasn't being great for me either. Would you mind doing a speed test using https://www.nperf.com ? I'm currently not the 50 up and down and thinking of moving to the 100 Mbps. Thanks in advanced

They had better hurry - vodacom have beat them to the punch on that score (even though MTN have supposedly been working on enabling this for a while now).

Lol. I was just about to order MTN FTTH, after reading a (probably fake) testimony circulated by a "user" on a Lonehill Residents Association mailing list.

After reading this thread, not so sure. How are the speeds, by the way? Any throttling?

Why dont you go with MetroFibre since I see you are in Lonehill
That is who our complex is going with

Our complex already has MTN installed - I don't think any other infrastructure providers are going to be duplicating the service?

I seriously doubt it - you'd need to retrench and most residents won't support that happening again anyway (we've investigated).

I am sure they will eventually allow other data providers on their backbone, and for now their fibre service seems fine (all my steam downloads and nvidia updates along with downloads come down at 5-6MB/S...

Unfortunately your complex chose to go with MTN then.
Whilst ours has chosen MetroFibre

Hi All

Is anyone still following this thread?

I just signed up with MTN FTTH(It was what was installed in our complex) and it's been a nightmare. Many phone calls and site visits later I eventually have a connection. Has there been any news in trying to check your data balance or load a bundle? After calling MTN they directed me to the online portal which I couldn't log on to (the actual reason I called them in the first place).

After the call I got an sms saying I had exceeded my credit limit of R2000 and all my services had been suspended, including my personal cellphone. So I had to find another phone to call MTN contract department who told me, after 20 minutes on the phone, that it was an issue on their side to do with the credit act and that my actual account balance was -R280 odd and that they are busy restoring all my services.

It is so frustrating dealing with with MTN and systems that don't work. It feels like I have spent an hour only to go back 50 steps. What a nightmare.
