So, MTN is laying fibre in my suburb, has been since Jan last year and I think they are laying it outside my house last because they know how much I want it, anyway, I will deal with my unstable 8MB ADSL until they finish.

My question is -- does anyone have the 20MB fibre option and how are your international speed tests?

I know the price differences between 20 -> 50 -> 100 are not vast but I don't see a real need for me to have above a synchronous 20MB connection at the moment.

If not 20, does anyone have 50 and how are the international speeds?

I see on their FAQ they state that you cannot upgrade your line speed (bizarre)

Hi Blunt,

I got my 20mbps MTN fibre line last year October, and I must say I am very happy with it. I'm using my line for gaming (locally and internationally), youtube on my TV, netflix and of course downloading. I've been pretty happy with it, only now and then my international speeds have been a little slow, but on the whole it's infinitely better than my old 2mb adsl that was riddled with issues. I don't have any speedtests for you at the moment, but I can post some tonight.

Oh and another thing, if you do sign up, make sure that you choose the EFT payment option. Do not choose the debit order option, last month I was debited R1200 more than I was supposed to be billed, and that took about 4 weeks to fix.

Don't cry ;) . I did some speed tests for you on my Mtn 50 Mbps FTTH. Locally it normally sits at around 49 Mbps but today it was slightly lower.

thanks  but I want to see a 20mb'er to see if it's really worth going 50

If US/UK speed on 20MB is above 10MB down on avg (which it should be) then I don't think I'd need 50

It's a pleasure . I'm not sure what the speeds would be like on the 20 Mbps. I just went straight to 50Mbps because it was only R100 more pm

yea, it's a toss up... i can be a penny pincher if it's not necessary, that's R1200 a year :D would be interested to see how 20mb goes. the f- up is that on their site it says once you decide on your speed you can't upgrade?!@?

Do you know if those double data promos are still valid? Did you sign up after October last year?

With regard to speed upgrades I started on a 50mbps line and upgraded to the 100 a few months later.
Make sure you go month to month and NO debit orders they never got my bill right when I had a debit order.
Thanks, quite disappointing international speed, hows a US server? Good to hear an upgrade is easy then i can start with 20 and see how it goes. I see the consensus on debit orders is a big fat no so will definitely avoid that thanks

So I got my order confirmation and user/pass today.. just gotta wait for the installer now.

Where do you log in to view your data balance and top up etc.? Is it on the shop.mtn site or on the myaccount.mtn or the regular mtn site?
