Hi Guys,

As the title suggests, I am looking for opinions around MTN Fixed LTE with Vox as ISP specifically. To give provide some context, here are considerations:

  • Fibre is not an option (in fact I do have fibre and I'm happy with it), but I am not staying at my typical residence and likely will not for quite some time to come.
  • I preferably need minimum 250 GB data, without breaking the bank as I am still paying for the fibre, although it will be downgraded to the slowest (and cheapest) speed to offset some of the LTE cost to be incurred
  • The signal where I am at the moment is good with MTN (tested with SIM in mobile device)
  • Anytime data (compared to included night time) is significantly more important to me as things stand currently
If I look at Vox's MTN based fixed LTE offerings, they do in total provide overall less data for roughly the same price as other competing ISPs, however their their data is any time exclusively. A practical example is comparing generic ISP offering of 150GB any time + 150GB night time (300GB total) @ R750, to a Vox offering of 250GB with any time at basically the same price.

For me personally, I'd rather offer up 50 GB from the total to have more any time data. My only concern is if there might be other reason why not to go with Vox - be it service levels (support), quality of service (speed, reliability) etc. I am working remotely which makes it critical to have a reliable and fast connection. I understand that most of ISP offerings are running off the MTN network which should in principal put most ISP experiences in a similar league, though I'd love to get your opinions around Vox as an ISP given all of the aforementioned. Thank you in advance.

Regards,
CTV

Their anytime packages also appealed to me and I've actually signed up with them in February. I am pretty happy with the network performance. HOWEVER, my support experience with them has been terrible and has left a sour taste in my mouth.

They typically respond by the next day - which is fine, but not great. The main problem is the quality of feedback/help they provide. From the majority of tickets logged, I've received very brief responses which do not comprehensively answer my query. Their ticket logging system is primitive and makes it difficult to follow up on queries or manage your tickets (mark as resolved etc.). They usually close the tickets straight after responding so you are forced to log a new ticket to follow up on unresolved issues. Very disappointed with their customer support as their network performance has been good for me.

Also, I would definitely not recommend them if you plan to change your data package often as they charge a R99 "setup" fee each time you do.

Overall, they're an okay ISP.

If the support team was more useful, they would be good.

If they didn't charge "setup" fees every time you change your package, they would be great.

But right now, they're just okay.

Hope this was helpful

Are the deals for fixed lte direct from MTN not cheaper?

The MTN Fixed LTE-A Deals at Vox provide anytime data exclusively. Other providers typically include Night data in their package. You may get more overall data at other providers, but as @charltvisser mentioned, the value of using your data any time of the day is an appealing factor for many. Don't know of any other ISPs that have the same variety of anytime packages that Vox has.
