MTN hit on all fronts

The really sad thing is that the South African public has made MTN & Vodacom what they are today & instead of acknowledging that, say thank you and give the public lower prices, they just look at more ways to screw us.

Why must a sms still cost 0.80c on the Vodacom network, when we all know that they're paying absolutely nothing for it? Why must we still pay R2+ for a phone call, when it cost them a fraction of that? And don't get me starting on the data.

I'm also moving to CellC & 8.ta soon. Had enough of this.

Uhm.. India has a huge ass population with heavy population density, comparing SA with India in terms of cellular coverage + cost is just stupid as the economy of scale is skewed heavily in their favor. Cellular + telecoms in general works on contention, the greater the populous + density the easy and more profitable you will be in a shorter, cheaper manner. <-- this also allows greater cost savings to be passed down to consumers faster

The example of India was presented as yardstick something to make the comparison. Also the economies of scale should be about the same. SA has high population density in selected areas only. Also the cell phone companies in India are Regional.

We may never have their call charge rates; but this should not deter SA from aggressively targeting these mafia style companies and getting them to reduce their tariffs drastically.

Are you justifying the duopoly or the supernormal profits that these mafia style companies making?

Is it fair that they have the highest call charges in the world for what is 40 year old technology? Have they not paid off their investment with a single year of price gorging profits.

They are milking the masses; the poorest of the poor? So that they can hire lawyers and run rings around the fools at ICASA? That is like a true mafia style operation.
