I recently bought and tested an MTN Icon 5G, the cheapest 5G smartphone in South Africa, and it is a fantastic device for the R999.90 that Edgars charges for it.

The MTN Icon 5G is a rebranded ZTE Blade A75 that the mobile operator launched in November 2024 at a recommended retail price of R2,499.

For the money, this is a lot of bang for the buck.

5G is not the salient feature of this phone for me, data prices are still far too expensive to take advantage of that. 128GB storage for R1 000!!!! That's what I'm talking about.

But it seems that there are no updates.

Last security update is 5 August 2024.

Does anyone know if there are any updates?

According to Lupus atleast you get Google Play system updates which gives you all the security updates.
