MTN iphone 4 and 3G

I have not been able to use my data bundle (150MB) since I have received my new iphone. I am a new MTN subscriber having ported from Virgin Mobile.

With 3G and cellular data activated, I almost always get a "no internet connection" or with the speedtest.net app it says "network communication issues".

Every now and then though I manage to update the weather app over 3G, but nothing more ?!

Anyone had similar issues?

PS: and yes I am in a 3G zone and yes my iphone shows 3G at the top with full signal strength.

1) carrier setting updated automatically when i plugged into itunes. No further option to enter or change carrier settings that I could find.

2) there is no place to enter an APN (I had such an option on my old jailbroken iphone, but nothing like that now).

3) yes 3G on and cellular data on - no option for APN

4) I called 173 and they were useless and said I should call 0831555 at chargeable rates and perhaps they can help - cannot see why I should pay to activate or try to activate something that is included in my contract. Is there not a "free way" to sort this out instead of pauing R2,60 per minute to a call centre?
 
Maybe try reset the network settings, that has fixed problems for some of my friends with 3GS's.

settings->general->reset->reset network settings
