MTN iPhone 5 LTE support

Ok some more info. MTN as usual only telling half the story. LTE will go live on the 25th of March. Also you need a LTE SIM card as others have mentioned. Why these muppets would be issuing people that buy iPhone 5's with standard 3G SIM cards escapes me but that's MTN for you I guess.

how does one check the current sim?

Ok this is going to be fun. So now you can't turn off 3G only LTE. So my battery now lasts 4 hours because it keeps trying to lock on to an almost nonexistent 3G signal on MTN, WTF!

If you want LTE with MTN you will have to pay VAS rates for the data.

I think it is R799 pm for 2GB of data (which is ridiculous) and it can only be used on the Galaxy Tab 8.9 at present.

Vodacom is the only South African network that really has LTE out commercially.

You make no sense what so ever, get on point man!
I think that post was self explanatory. If you want LTE on MTN you will have to pay a premium for it and right now it is only available on the Samsung Tab as per their website.

Wait, did I just get upgraded to something that's going to cause me inconvenience and expense without giving me the option of opting in? That sounds like MTN. Now all they have to do is offer a discounted rate to Pay as You Go and everything will be back to normal.
