MTN iPhone 5 LTE support

MTN actually has LTE? I've never seen my Lumia 920 show LTE before and i'm on MTN... And that's with the phone set to LTE and in an area which, according to MTN's coverage map, is an LTE area..

You need an LTE provisioned SIM

Seriously? I had to get a new micro sim for my phone.. surely that's LTE capable?

Yes, they just need to flick a switch on their systems to enable a SIM, if you have a fairly recent SIM. I, too, have a Lumia 920 <does the Lumia 920 secret handshake>, and have had it set to use LTE from day one, and whenever I'm near an MTN shop with a few minutes to spare, walk in and harass someone. They still aren't allowing people on the LTE network, it's still only usable with that 7" Samsung tablet. MTN does not "have LTE", no matter how they try and spin it in the press - it's still in a closed testing state.

My iPhone is asking me to update carrier settings...I assume this is for LTE.
Should I do it or ignore?
Will I lose 3G /HSDPA if I chose to update when there is no LTE in particular area.

You can go ahead and update. It won't affect your ability to use the 3G network.

But I've seen that after updating the only option is a toggle for LTE on or off. Once LTE is off how do u enable 3G?

do you have a button to toggle HSDPA, no you dont have but you still get HSDPA when you out of 3G...same thing applies with LTE

Is anyone able to use LTE? I have had the option to enable LTE since Saturday on my A1429 iPhone 5, however, in central Sandton, and around in Sandton suburbs I only get 3G.

Would be interesting know where people are able to use LTE right now on MTN with their iPhone 5 and the speeds they are achieving.

If you want LTE with MTN you will have to pay VAS rates for the data.

I think it is R799 pm for 2GB of data (which is ridiculous) and it can only be used on the Galaxy Tab 8.9 at present.

Vodacom is the only South African network that really has LTE out commercially.

You make no sense what so ever, get on point man!

Just received this SMS from MTN:

Y'ello NewsUpdate: iPhone 5 gets MTN LTE. 3G Pushed the boundaries, With LTE there's none. Look out for further communication later this month on how on how you enjoy Internet at the speed of LTE. Please reply STOP to Opt-out

i can hardly get 3g! how will i get LTE? i didnt get any notification for a carrier update.

Ok some more info. MTN as usual only telling half the story. LTE will go live on the 25th of March. Also you need a LTE SIM card as others have mentioned. Why these muppets would be issuing people that buy iPhone 5's with standard 3G SIM cards escapes me but that's MTN for you I guess.
