MTN job cuts begin

"decline in the economic environment" Huh?

The economic environment is just fine thanks, its MTN's customer service and billing that sucks a big fat one.

As always it’s not the managers or executives that will see the door it’s the workers.

In light of greater efficiencies that are being achieved, together with the decline in the customer base, it is foreseeable that fewer resources will be required in the near future.

Greater efficiencies != taking 50 minutes to answer the phone on the support line!

I guess they can get rid of the entire billing department. Or maybe they had already. I am waiting anxiously on their call explaining my bills since about March.

if i am not mistaken the other day the MTN CEO got a huge paycheck as well as a bonus?

How can you give the CEO a massive paycheck but you lay off workers.

I'm also starting to question this type of management greed.

Surely the CEO (and other top brass types) can take a cut in order to keep the workers - but they are not prepared to... they want their money, and the workers are left to fend for themselves.

Just want to wish you okes at MTN good luck. It sucks being caught in the middle of this. The sad fact of business is that many peoples lives take a big hit so that some director can get his bonus for hitting targets to keep the shareholders happy.

MTN is getting back at the gov for enforcing the lowering of the MTR...but its ok if the staff is from the billing & network quality dept, they caused us too much pain,MTN can't risk havin them during the world cup...as for the call centre staff stop using scab labour
