MTN launches Data4Keeps – a year-long data bundle

This is why I left MTN a few years ago. I was with them form years waiting for them to compete. But they never even tried to compete or get into a price war.
I eventually ported to Cell C who was aggressively driving down prices by actually competing. Sadly I had to port to Vodacom due to their terrible network quality. While Vodacom is no better at competing than MTN, the never really needed to compete as they were on top and their nr 1 competition(MTN) never really pushed them.
I blame MTN for Vodacom's high prices because if MTN had competed on price both Vodacom and MTN's prices would be lower.

It just shocks me that with competition from Afrihost, Cell C and Telkom, MTN launches products prices like this as if they are the only provider in the country.

250MB at R59 pm (VC) will cost me R708 a year (its 3GB overall) and much will go wasted as the bundle expires and I have to remember to load it and and and. (its what I use on my phone, don't need more, I have ADSL and wifi)

vs

R330 once off for that 3GB that will last me the year.

Where is the retardedness?

This isn't terrible. If you're someone (like me) who likes to buy the year long prepaid data bundles such as the Internet Starter Pack from Telkom Mobile, or the old Red Bull Mobile deal, then this at least puts MTN on the map. It's not as good per/MB pricing but the "infinite rollover" might actually work out to be cheaper if you have month-to-month usage that varies significantly.

yeah, that's exactly the issue for me, so I'm happy with this change - you don't lose all those left-overs at the end of each month and don't have to force yourself to download shiit you don't need, just to feel better

it's not good, it's better than it was, it's progress....

can you in future rely on 100GB@R100 valid for 3months?
 
If MTN had decent reception i.e. LTE in my area, maybe I would buy some data as a backup. But I'll skip.
 
Can't figure this out. Do the bundles last for 365 days or can you buy bundles to make it extend to 365 days?

Yup, at this pace they'll get to where Cell C is by 2030. Progress alright :erm:

....and maybe by 2030 CellC will have the coverage MTN has..... who knows?
 
FFS when are the cell companies going to stop ripping everyone off.
 
Will they have the staff to support this bundle in a years time?
Can't say I've ever had a great feeling about MTN.

They are the second biggest carrier in SA. I highly doubt that MTN will ever close their doors in fact I won't be surprised if MTN snatches the number 1 spot in the next year or 2.
 
MTN, tell that to the people whose data disappears in a day without signing on to the Internet! This offer is putrid, Cell C's Giga200, which lasts 365 days has been the cheapest data available for the last 3 or 4 years and their new data roaming contract with Vodacom coverage is very good.

Dream on about MTN becoming number 1, the stats show that they are steadily moving towards number 3.

Honestly, I can't see that happening. Just look a each providers websites and what you can and can't do on their websites. MTN is lagging behind.

I thought they were number 4 with Cell C and Telkom fighting on the 'cheap' data front.
