MTN LTE project: vendor trial underway

LTE should be a Telkom ADSL killer, its going to be just as good as ADSL in terms of latency but a 100 times faster. Should be fun.

Only if they can drive down the costs of mobile broadband. Current promotions excluded, some still charge R289/G.

Nope, it is just enough justification for MTN to say they need to keep their rates high to cover infrastructure costs and the better customer experience through higher speeds :-)

lets wait and see what the pricing will hold, especially with the new cable going live

What's the real world speeds for LTE? Can we expect a stable 20Mbps in a crowded area?

:erm: I like the direction our telecoms is going...slowly but surely getting there.

Give SA another 10 years and we will be where the rest of the world is currently? FFS

It only makes sense that in the initial stages that MTN LTE would be expensive.

correct me if im wrong but AT&T/Verizon had unlimeted Data options for $60/pm in the usa thats really cheap. but we wont see that here anytime soon

you guys keep forgetting that Wireless services are not really meant to eliminate wired access....

If I received 5 bob for every flippen flying pig promised on myBB by the ISPs I would be a billionaire by now.

It will be interesting to see what price LTE is going to be. Definately the more SP's that get in to this market the better for us. Still give Kudos to Cell-C for briniging competition to the current market.

Isn't 100Mbps (with real world a lot less) at little excessive, what would you do will all that speed?
(Perhaps the problem is I do not know what speedy internet is like, as having a 384Kbps line from Telkom is not exactly mind blowing speed).

Is a Cell C 2/5GB (let's say in well covered area) offer is Telkom ADSL killer? No. For low usage accounts is killer.

Same for LTE, there never will be features like uncapped/high-usage account from your favorite provider choosen of many, which make ADSL unbeatable. Otherwise, if pricing will be similar to Cell C or better, it will be just killer for low-end capped accounts.

Oh, wait, what point in speed at small cap?

LTE suppose to have mobile speeds of 100megabits/s and 1gigabit/s while stationery and in decent range of a tower.

btw so if we have LTE next how much faster can we finished that 2gigs of cap.

That's LTE-Advanced, aka 4G (or 12G if Lars launches it :D) and still a few years away.

What MTN is trailing is 'normal' LTE, aka 3.9G, with a theoretical downlink speed of 150Mb/s.

I've managed to get close to this speed as in this screen shot.
