MTN network slow/down since Friday?

Hi everyone,

On Friday I noticed that my phone (iPhone 4S if it matters) wasn't loading webpages anymore, neither did Facebook or even Speedtest work. Whatsapp has been working but emails come through although no pictures or attachments can be downloaded. The problem seems to have fixed itself once or twice over the weekend but it's been pretty much slow/no existent since Sunday night again. I tried another sim card in my phone and it worked perfectly, so clearly the fault lies with MTN.

Has anyone else been experiencing problems recently? I'm in Edevale/Rosebank and it makes no difference either.

You are not the only person suffering since Friday with mtn connection.I was watching a few youtube videos and noticed every 2 seconds my connection froze up and it was on WCDMA.The time it froze was between 10-20 seconds, so as you can understand if my connection is only active for 2 seconds then it's not even worth watching anything.

I thought it was maybe just slow connection and went to play some online games but i was kicked out of the games every time i started.I wrote a complaint to MTN but only received a useless automated message, so no help from them.I know there's a few hardworking Mtn guys on this forum so they will give us a good explanation.

Until then bite hard and hopefully they will help us because i can't get out of it since i am on a contract with them.
BtW: Don't give me crap about the tower is congested because to automated message said it already and it's still not fixed yet.
I live in centurion at the moment.
 
I had some issues on MTN since the weekend, would get no network or Internet wouldn't work.

Since yesterday things seems to be better. My download speeds have been greatly improved. I'm in the Western Cape.
 
The MTN Loaded server for e-mail has been up and down the last few days...MTN acknowledged there was a problem and at the moment it seems reasonably stable.:erm:
 
It's still not fixed because, yes the connections runs good after 10PM to 8AM but not outside those times so i'm still getting those freezes.
I tried going to cmd(command prompt) and typing ping www.google.com -t so that i can see if my connection stays active, but out of every 5-6 reply i get i also get a request timed out.
Something is really wrong on Mtn's end.

Been getting the same connection drops in all online games. Download speeds seem to be ok.
 
OMG you got an email.What makes you so important lol.
Going to sue mtn for racism.
 
Ok, seems to be much much better, XBMC streaming excellent. YouTube excellent. Torrents excellent (550KB/s), but not HTTP? It's marching along 200KB/s...
 
So it's a week later and still no change, the internet is still slow/non existent. Can't get through to the call center and the people at the stores have a vacant expression on their faces as usual. What can I do about this, it's starting to get ridiculous!

That's about it when i ping also.
The closer you get to 2 PM ,the more there's a request timed out.It's really pathetic that Mtn don't tell anyone whats the problem and the fact that i hear no other problems from vodacom and cellc about such a bad connection.

Network updates? Why does the network break after an upgrade?

It's worse today! But it's been going on for a while now.

Really terrible! Slow or nothing at all.

I'm in Eldoraigne in Centurion.

I have a VC data contract as well... Really, MTN and VC is equally terrible.

Yeah it's still not working properly, on SpeedTest i get 0.01MPBS Download and Upload speeds! No one at the call centre can help me either.
 
I've been experiencing same timeout issues for more than a week now. In the Garsfontein Mooikloof area, as well as Midrand where I work. Very painful especially when connecting to my office on VPN which then disconnects every time it times out.
Not been getting joy with 1555 - the agent had me fiddling with the APN settings which really is just avoiding the real issue...network timeouts. Most people on this site already know all the operator APN's by heart. Come on MTN, give me a break.
