sup guys

just need to know how good mtn and vodacom are, in terms of: coverage, quality of the speeds and also customer service!

Vodacom all the way, I've had nothing but troubles since I moved to mtn, can't wait to get back to vodacom. But I guess this is just my experience

Vodacom. I have been with them for 10 years and while they have their problems and I have had a freak out or two in a Vodacom shop, its nothing compared to the trouble I had with my 2 year mistake with MTN.
Dropped calls, changing my method of payment from debit order to cash without notifying me, and then cutting me off on the second of the month after there was no cash payment before the first. Again without even a phone call to tell me there was a problem. Took me almost a week of phoning their stupid moronic incompetent call center before it was sorted out. Then when I canceled they charged me a full month extra because I canceled one day late. Despite the fact that I spent all day the day before trying to get the fax through.

For sure, Vodacom is not the best thing, but its way better than MTN.

I've been at MTN for about 8years, and couldn't complain too much about their service. Their latest contract set didn't look good to me, so I changed to Vodac. I think they're better in terms of coverage, service and on my contract, pricing.

Just a note - if you pick up trouble with a Vodacom4U outlet, make sure to complain to Vodacom itself as well. I've found that some of the 4Us would blatantly lie about anything that might save them a few cents. Vodacom itself is much better.

This is exactly how I feel. After four months of a contract with MTN, I can not wait to move to Vodacom.

Been a Vodacom user all my life - now I'm on MTN Prepaid

Best Experience!

Switched from MTN back to Vodacom. Changing to MTN was the worst decision I have made with regards to choosing service providers. Go Vodacom or use the post office to communicate. MTN was a total nightmare for me from coverage to billing.

Vodacom, particularly given the recent MTN billing fiascos. Also depends on what you want to do: mainly data or voice. Data is much cheaper from Vodacom since their recent bundle-size increases for the same price -- it's actually surprising MTN hasn't felt forced to match this. And you can 'work' the prepaid system a little better with Vodacom if you know the nuts and bolts, e.g. knowing that if you buy a R1,000 airtime voucher you will actually get R1,100 airtime, knowing you can convert Talking Points to call discounts, sms bundles or even data bundles.

Or of course you could live dangerously and try Virgin.....

Mod Note: Redirect in Vodacom forum added for cross comments.

4 me mtn can work if they just keep the following up. 60 GHc (+/-) R300 for 2.5 gig data + 3g data card with roaming enabled so works here in the r s of a. Vodaphone is even cheaper @ GHc55 but although it shows roaming is enabled does not work here (e3565) my VC sim does not work in it either. maybe settings?

Definetly MTN. Speeds are slightly slower on MTN, but Vodacom's coverage and reliability sucks big time.

Just about everywhere I go I get an MTN 3G signal but just about nowhere I go I get a Vodacom signal.

i am in cape town

i travel all over western cape

most places i cant get no signal from Vodacom or i get signal but there network is so jammed i cant even think of sending a mms

i switched to MTN 1 year now i had HSDPA continues with no disconnections

no losses in signal just smooth surfing :)
