MTN Overcharging AKA stealing

Has anybody else had MTN trying to steal from them? I have a data only contract, which I have for very rare occasions when I'm away. Most of the time though the tablet is in my house on WiFi. In 2 years I have never even come close to using the allocated data. Last month however, I got a ridiculously high bill. According to MTN I had used an additional 1.2Gb of data. The device has not left my house and therefore been on Wifi the whole time. I Should mention that when the device is at home I have mobile data disabled. On top of that, the device itself recorded data usage of 190 Mb total usage (Thanks to Eskom! 3 hours use during load shedding.)

When I complained to MTN they said that they had checked their records and it was all correct. Now there's a surprise! They sent me a PDF to "prove" their records. This is where it gets even more intersting. I couldn't find my charger just before Christmas but being as I was spending time with family, I left it and let the tablet go flat. I found the charger on the 27th. Even though the tablet's battery was flat MTN charged me for data on those days. I also took the Sim card out for a couple of days to try a Telkom Sim because the MTN signal at my house is virtually non esintmt (another reason it would nearly imposible to use that much data.) Sure enough, MTN says I used data even when the sim card wasn't even in the device.

A colleague of mine says he was also charged for additional data over December / January despite never going over his contract allowance since signing up with MTN 3 years ago.

I think that MTN is over charging for data because most people would not notice or be able to verify.

Having seen their bogus Printout, I tried phoning but kept getting cut off So I sent an email, to which I got the standard MTN response ... ie, they completely ignored it.

IS MTN a den of thieves who's directors should be in jail?
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I am not an MTN customer, employee, user, supplier, or shareholder.

However tedious your rant might be (and who can't sympathise), I nevertheless find the tone, tenor and substance of your allegations utterly outrageous. You have not bothered to substantiate a single relevant fact, and yet you have no qualms slinging about the most serious defamatory charges directed at identifiable persons.

Go at once to your nearest police station and lay charges of theft.

But please. It's grown-up time now.

OP is having a bad weekend.

Arthur is having a "good" weekend. Nice hangover on Monday on the cards...
Hope Arthur doesn't have his MTN interview tomorrow. That booze is going to linger.

We all know prepaid prevents OOB shark...

Or next best thing, Topup style contract (so not MTN because you cant buy data with your airtime) or Telkom Mobile where once your contract data runs out it stops working till you buy new data.

I'm not sure if it's the same thing but I notice data depleting from my contract allocation despite using the Afrihost APN on my iPhone.
I wonder where all that data is going??

I had this problem when I was on MTN-Nashua Mobile. It was WASPS depleting my airtime. Luckily I was on TopUp otherwise the consequences could have been dire. I removed the Wasps by dialing *141*5# and following the instructions. I don't know if the USSD string is still the same.

Did you choose NOT to upgrade to iCloud Drive when going to iOS8?

Seems there is a bug that ticks a "use mobile data" box which you can't actually see if you didn't.

Enable iCloud Drive and then under those settings go switch off the Use Mobile Data button.

I did decline iCloud. Will check that thanks.

But the APN is set to Afrihost so how would it deplete MTN data?
