MTN slashes 2GB prepaid mobile data pricing

Wow! I'm on a iPhone 4 Top Up 100 contract and get like 150MB a month but thats too little for my data guzzler phone so I normally buy a 1GB bundle at R289 every month! So to get to buy double the data I normally buy at R100 less will be pretty cool! However I can't see the offering yet!

Okay, so it is still R389 on the USSD menu.

I've just checked.

I then tried to see if I could start a discussion about this on their Facebook page. Guess what? MTN SA DOES HAVE A FACEBOOK PAGE.

If they do please send me the link? Thanks @Khanya - I see it is 'Ayoba MTN'.

I am now just mad that they don't just list it as MTN SA or something. If you just type MTN the SA (Ayoba) page doesn't show up in the results. You are loosing "likes" i.e. people who want to communicate with and stay informed about you MTN.

Now here is the deal. All other Mobile companies have lots more "likes" on their FB pages. Here are the stats as of the time of writing:
- Vodacom - 137,738 likes
- Cell C - 39,959 likes
- 8ta - 30,369 likes
- MTN - 19,549 likes (no wonder)
- Virgin Mobile SA - 5,612 likes
- MTN - 888 group members

This has now motivated me to begin my series of exposing how much this company is all out for itself and gives no consideration for its customers. <----- I take this back - for now.

I accept this offer as acceptable. I have the 149 (2+2) with Vodacom and constantly find myself needing to topup, this will make the top up less expensive and I can now replace my Voda prepaid with MTN.

Try Ayoba MTN.

If history repeats itself, this good news.

In February 2007, MTN launched a special, reducing the price of the 1GB bundle from R499 to R399 and threw in free 1GB, that was supposed to run from February to May. To counter this, Vodacom reduced the price of their 2GB bundle to match and then MTN extended their 2GB offfer indefinitely.

So Vodacom should offer 2GB standard prepaid pricing at R149, which is still not good enough.

Typical MTN, no-one at the shop even knows about this and it's also not on their website.

Anyone know if this special can be added on a contract phone?

The 2GB prepaid data bundle is still R389 when I try and purchase it from the phone. So what is the point? Or maybe it is limited to 3g data sticks. Not sure anymore.

Can't be. You can use your data on any preferred platform.

so whats the point of having a promotion but users have no way to access it? very bad marketing if you ask me... if you are going to do something do it properly

Promotion promotion promotion. Not standard ever.

On 8ta, you get 3GB for R150.

Pass.
This
That's only useful if you're within their coverage map and for those of us outside this is the best deal.

At least now if you are not in a major centre you have an alternative network to Vodacom (Cell C does EDGE roaming on VC). An improvement, but we need more, stop following the crowd and get serious!

God!! Read the first paragraph and got excited...then second paragraph.......ANOTHER PROMOTION!!!! I don't mean to be a killjoy and all that i love a discount, freebie, promotion now and then but c'mon now...were are being over "promotionalised" while we consumers are crying out for PRICE CUTS or if that is not attainable MORE VALUE(bandwidth) FOR THE SAME PRICE.

Anyway thanks MTN for putting something back into our pockets.pssssst..pls make it standard(for now at least)

I was a a MTN store this morning. They didn't know about it at all. After they made a few phone calls I walked out with no 2GB bundle for R189. Why?? Because no-one knows anything about it. WTF?????
