MTN slashes 2GB prepaid mobile data pricing

We are fast approaching what i would term "simtitution" with all these data promo.

Take myself for instance, July there i port to Cell C from Voda when promised the "4G" network would be in our town in Sept(alas not to be till Dec) to take advantage of the whoosh promo deals(discontinued I believe) = Cell C in the bag.Next 8ta comes up with 2+1 promo so I recon no Cell C whooosh in town yet = 8ta in the bag.Then Nov Voda 20GB promo till Jan and I'm in = Voda in the bag.Now Voda is done 9 Jan(no moola to extend further,finished on all that Christmas/new year booze) reach in the bag and pop out my 8ta sim and i'm back to 8ta 2+1 promo.(by the way the 60+60GB looks tempting but budget tight for a R1800 upfront outlay now).

Now say the 8ta 2+1 were to end this month and offhand I know only of MTN who offers anything remotely close for those 2GB at a similar..poof! It's MTN 2GB promo = MTN in the bag.(by the way there is already a MTN sim card @ home not sure if it's rica'ed though,saw it in a drawer somewhere)

Now don't get me wrong i'm actually loving it....COMPETITON:whistle: but somehow i have this niggling feeling that now it should settle down so we can budget properly for our data needs... certainty?!? Virgin Mobile??? Ain't competition great:D

Forward with simtitution!!! and VIVA to competition!!!

If you travel it would be a bad idea to take the 2+1Gb package. 8ta doesn't do roaming on MTN's network with the data packages afaik.

I think it is way too early for us to start slating MTN and their staff for not making the offer available yet.

We, the members of MyBB ,are often too well informed about products and issues for our own good. We know the news before it breaks to the rest of the population and often before the companies have given the go ahead for roll out and marketing.

I have on several occassions gone to enquire about products and services that have only been made available several days, weeks if not months after they were made known to us at MyBB. The Cell C 3G roll out (and its consumer products) is a classic example.

So, my advice to you. Be patient. You are more in the know than most - including people at the said companies or institutions.

Just phoned 808, and was informed it cannot be added to a contract phone :mad:
Will confirm this via another channel / call centre agent

I don't want another modem, I just want to share the connection via wifi. Why must I pay more when I don't want a modem, makes no sense at all.
 
Good move MTN. Now please decrease the prices of your smaller data bundles for contract users! R50 for 75MB is a disgrace!

Just confirmed with another call centre agent. The special price is only available on a 24 month contract linked to a new sim. You can add the 2GB package to an existing number, but this then be at the normal R389 pm fee. No use at all... :erm:

Thats the best thing anyone said so far! If mtn is trying to loose customers then they are doing a good job from all the "promotions" they have been having so far.

I though that this was the case, hence my earlier comment that it is not available on present phones. I am not impressed by MTN. They still remain the MOST expensive cellular provider in the country. I can't wait to move my 4 contracts away from them this year. I have been screwed long enough. Their erratic network coverage is another reason why I am ditching them.

as far as i am concerned its false advertisement on there part then if all this is true... really sad if you ask me thinking of leaving and going to 8ta if this type of thing continues.
