MTN slow tonight.

Well "HSDPA" is still real bad tonight , and again I need to switch to "EDGE" to get some data flow.

We should be able to make a claim against MTN considering that we cannot use the data bundles in one month due to the absolutely crap download speed.

I've got news for u.
Vodacom GPRS is faster nowadays than MTN.

Thanks for that tip - looks like my next pre-paid data bundle will be with Vodacom then.

I just did a speed test on EDGE & HSDPA and the max download was 32 kbps , whereas when I started using the HSDPA on Saturday 7 Apr. it was around 1.4 Mbps.

Mines on and off... seems to operate in bursts.. The past while, I often have to click links several times before the page finally loads.. :(

Problem for me is Vodacom only had GPRS in my area.. (not even EDGE) and a very weak signal .. like half strength... but maybe I'll give them a try again.. I've not used them in about 9 months..

And of course VM is just a sad joke.

Exremely slow and unstable here too for the last couple of days. Now to figure out how to use up 2GB with these kinds of speeds before month end....

I know how MTN will fix their bandwith problem... just wait until enough subscribers left!

Thats what I said a while back when they had the build up of the ad campaign for the 2gig thingie in Feb!

MTN must first get their 12346778763th grade so called network fixed before they offer new packages that no one can use!!!

I hate myself for signing up with MTN! Sorry!!! I HATE MTN TOO!!!

My contract expires end of November!!! I'm leaving and taking my R999.00 per month to Vodacom on prepaid... there actually is a thing like 3G/HSDPA with Vodacom!!!! Pity I can't say the same about MTN... poor little rich company!!! 'Yello my a$$!

MTN - Take my money and give me GPRS for the price of 3G!!! I am warning everyone against you! The next thing is stickers on my car!!!!

My fury towards MTN is worse that a woman's love scorned!!!

O yes!!! Back to the topic! My connection is very slow too... ever since October last year!!! But it is especially bad the last 2-3 day in the evenings... I am connecting slower than GPRS.... hehehe!!!

MTN was here at my home and had the same poor reception!!! hehehe!!!

I never heard from them again... seems they don't know how to fix it...

agge shame!!!!!

Been using MTN for a few months now and the 10th and 11th realy sucked but now it seems back to normal. Better than Voda HSDPA speed and so far less problems.

It may have been somewhat better at the midnight hours, but 09:20 13/04/07 the max download speed is 250 kbps whereas when I bought my data bundle on Sat 7/4/07 it was around 1.4 Mbps.

Impossible for me to use my 2G bundle before it expires - MTN owe me compensation for this.

Impossible ?

60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in a hour, 24 hours in a day.

There is some issues currently as discussed on some other threads as well.

This is currently being looked @

At 250kbps you can download 2.7GB in 24hours. So it's definately not impossible.

Correct - not impossible, but higly impractical.
250 kbps is the best I've got in the past three days - I'm certainly not going to take advantage of this improvement (most likely short lived) and blow the 1.6G left on my data bundle in the few days remaining before it expires.

I'm using my cell as a modem (Nokia N73). Using MTN Edge since no 3g in my area. Also noticed that MTN's connection is k@k the last few days. Contacted Vodacom twice to enquire about upgrade but 3g roll-out is planned for end of the year. :(

I'm using *99***1# as my connection setting. Is this the best option?

Try using *99# i use that and a few people say it works better.

MTN is flying this morning but i dont suspect it to hold up too much.

Guess the *99# is working better.... good to hear :D

The 1 and the 11 timeout because they are proxies/firewalls. Proxies and firewall s don't respond to ping's even though they will happily route your traffic.
