MTN Spam

Add me to the list of irate MTN subscribers who cannot get rid of these irritating SPAM messages...

My brother recently switched over to VodaCom LTE for home internet - no space and you can't tell when it's load shedding. Only dowside is the 3 year contract - but they tried all other options.

...kind of considering MTN if all their spam is sent mostly via SMS.

Reason being, on Vodacom, while I do get an occasional spam SMS that I can block with word filters, they like to abuse the SIM Toolkit and USSD function to spam me every 2-3 days with back-to-back ads, which you cannot block or silence no matter what for functional reasons. This is really sickening.

If MTN does this too then pity, but it'd spark me moreso to switch over (they have a stronger / more reliable signal in frequent areas) if not.

Haven't had any Vodacom spam at all for years on my Vodacom prepaid SIM, only my MTN one. Maybe I unsubscribed from everything years ago..

I reset my phone and set it up with no SIM in, so no Vodacom apps and stuff got loaded, put in the SIM after setup was completed.

That is interesting, I have a friend on Vodacom that doesn't get the USSD spam as well but more phone calls, while I only get calls once in a blue moon. Some factors definitely at play.

MTN also use their Sim toolkit for spam. also get the spam from made4Me (which is the sim toolkit). It is not as bad as their other spam but they do use it.

Weird my 4 sims get constant spam.
Maybe call Afrihost…

I’ve realized that it’s impossible to actually speak to a human at the MTN call Centre. The only time I managed to speak to someone was by selecting the wrong options on purpose, they gave me nonsense information and it was a waste of 20mins of my life,
