MTN stops SMS competition

Glad I'm not at MTN right now, cause this is just another major headache for them ... wonder if the MTN rep may divulge whats happening here (personally I'm not prepared to mention any rumors or suspicions without facts).

about blo#dy time! Although they may have made millions in the competition, the loss of revenue due to consumer dissatisfaction/distrust could negate this profit

Well in the interview the guy said that they were busy doing an audit and the details will be made public whatever that means.

This indeed is not only an African problem however due to high poverty more people are desperate to get ahead in this life and thus these types of competition prey on the desperate and vulnerable making it worse in Africa as I think people tend to believe they'll only spend R7,50 and hope to win something. However these guys will not give you even a slight chance until you've at least spent R22,50. Gone are the days when you entered something once and stood as much chance as everyone else. This is what makes these things ludicrous and should be out right banned.

All i can say is: SUCK IT, MTN!! What goes around comes around - even if you made a huge profit, your reputation is in the mud.

I agree entirely, but I think you need to multiply that R22.50 by at least a thousand times. A pure lottery is a million times fairer than this fiasco.

With their 'patrons' now well and truly fleeced, the pull the plug to avoid any additional scrutiny into their money making scams!

Surely if this was a birthday competition, it should be about giving back to their users who made them 'great', and not about trying to fleece them?

Gosh, MTN! You really missed an opportunity to go one up on Vodacom!

You hope it hurts them, but it probably won't. Good reputations don't seem to count for a lot these days.

Look at the banks. Does theri reputation hurt them? Nah!

I know this: I would never work for a cellphone or bank in SA. I would be a pimp before signing onto those pirate ships.

Yeah, I've been a loyal customer with with MTN for 15 years. This stupid competition celebrates my leaving MTN. I've already done inquiries with Vodacom on how to port my number to them.

So they made millions out of their gullible customers. They've had their laugh, I'm going to have mine soon.:p

I guess that might be the reason why I got R1500 free airtime 2 weeks ago. I never even entered any competition. :p

it has become clear to me that PREPAID MTN is the only way to go. The billing horror stories I hear on this forum (& the fact that I a
blacklisted :p) convinced me that neither of the 2 major mobile operators is a good idea for a contract. Lmao :D

Yawn. The sad thing is that people I know actually entered. Prey on people's fear, greed or laziness - it's the oldest trick in the book. Timeshare companies have been doing it for years. Remember that competition you entered... at the Engen garage... where you could win a Chevy Spark... well, Mr Jones, we've got great news for YOU.
