MTN traffic volumes spike

Well done to MTN. Anybody been struggling with cellphones since the FIFA soccer started?

Just doing some quick calculations, at the very least of 0.30c an sms, that means the 25Million sms would have generated more than 7 Million rand.... not bad.

I just hope their billing systems coped as well... o wait - their billing systems haven't coped for the past year and a half!

They're bound to use the matter of having "invested hundreds of millions" to facilitate this volume increase as justification for not passing on termination charge reductions

It's got nothing to do with the world cup. I've just been trying to stock up on porn before the government outlaws it.

Rubbish

I was the opening game on Friday. Sometime after the 2nd half started, I could not make any calls and all SMS were rejected. This was the case until after the match. This happened to my friends as well who are MTN users

Haha, I know it is a typo but it made me laugh ^_^

MTN South Africa has invested hundreds of millions of rand upgrading its network and infrastructure

and its still k@k

All I can say is that my Vodacom 3G has been suffering quite badly since Thursday last week, it doesn't want to stay connected for more than 20 mins at most but nothing more than 5 mins on average whereas my wife's MTN 3G has worked relatively speaking seamlessly. This is based on where I live in Fairland...dammit, and her 3G has a way smaller cap, grrrrr!!!

This is always likely to be the case at an event where so many people in close proximity may be simultaneously using their phones. Communication at the stadiums was restricted to two way radios for this precise reason. You can upgrade all you like but a network is always going to battle with 90,000 people trying to connect to one tower.

 coining it... I think by the end the 12th July 2010, they would have enough to put towers from here to China with LTE Advanced :D:D:D and Colour lights saying "Now that Ayoba"

-shrug- my mtn BB is going awesome :) not had much of a problem(network related) since i've gotten it :) meanwhile my sister on vodacom get sucky signal where i get perfect 3G :D
