I have been trying unsuccessfully since Friday 29 December to get Enhanced Fax and Data services activated on a Prodata SIM card from iTalk.

They claim the request was forwarded to MTN the next day on December 30, however, MTN's systems are not working properly and they have a backlog of service requests going back to 28 December.

Activating data and other add on services including Enhanced Fax and Data has always supposedly been actionable within 24 hrs. I have now waited one week, and I am going to lose a client because this was intended for a site installation 5 days ago.

There must be a very serious problem with the MTN infrastructure at the moment if they cannot do something this simple. Anybody know what's going on?

:D Y'ello Summer!!!:D

They on holiday! Cos you're the third person in the last few days i've heard with a complaint....

I'm in the same situation.

My mobile number was disconnected yesterday morning from the MTN network & when I phoned the helpdesk, they said it might take till Friday to reconnect my number.

So, yes, it would seem something really bad has happened to MTN's network.

My whole business runs off my mobile phone number, so you can imagine the stress I'm going through...

I'm sure it will be resolved, but the waiting is driving me nuts. :(

Hi Garp

This situation is this.

The Live network system had been overloaded by the amount of activations, Barings, Lifting of Barings and various other activation processes that should have gone through on the 26/12/2006 as per the Bill run. This has caused a "Bottle Neck".... Our system Engineers have confirmed yesterday that it would take 72 hours to have it working 100% again. Looks like we have another 48 hours to go.

I'm not saying that the activation wouldn't go thru during that time as the possibility is good it should go thru before then.

Pls note that the Bottle Neck didn't cause the system to crash but the duration for the activation is taking allot more time to go thru.

MTN has learned from this and is Doing a full system upgrade to prevent this is future. “Touch Wood"

Yes, something seriously went wrong over new years , at least they didn't deactivate your entire account and then couldn't re-activate it [for a week too] due to some system failure right across new years.

At least i'm up and running again, but it was extremely annoying to go off the map in "peak phone season" . Vodacom made alot of cash out of me in those days [which MTN could've gotten].

Also in the other threads they talk about "oh but it's holiday season/ public holiday / only had skeleton crew etc" ...i'm sorry that's a horrible excuse. THIS is exactly the time where a cellphone company must have MORE people...stats shows over and over people sms+phone over this period more than the entire freaking year!

It's almost like a gift-store being closed the week before Xmas...get my drift?

But yea i guess things like this happens, just too bad it happens just as i ported over from Vodacom [leaves a bad taste] and had to resort back to Vodacom to make phone calls...

IIRC MTN had a problem with numbers not being operational over the New Year's period.

Maybe it is related. The MTN reps should know what's going on.

edit: and they responded :)

Welcome to the club! Put your hands UP!

My one line was suspended on Thurs 28th, spoke to them on Fri 29th; They will re-connect. I was in Natal traveling back. Buy Sunday night, still no luck; "the technicians are working on it" that all I get.

I then email complaints department and the directors; got a small wiggle from them. Tue 2nd, they got a line open .... for about 4 hours, then the system barred my line again. STILL BARRED.

Further to that my other account has 5 lines, 1 of which is working. I had to go and but a pre-paid SMS and pay Prepaid rate to make phone call, while my main account has 350+ minutes in the bundle, not to mention the sms that I could not send at new year.

The real sad thing is that no care a continental. just "SORRY".

I mentioned in the email to the directors
Maybe the MTN users should switch their phones off for a day; no calls. Lets see what happens then ....

I just sit and wait in anticipation!!!!!
