MTN under fire for SMS competition, again

No they not under fire because the ASA only said that they were wrong and imposed no fine on them. Only if the revenue they made from the lottery is removed from them, will they feel the pinch...

geez not this nonsense again... MTN used to be my provider of choice, but after this birthday thing I changed providers-I really get pissed off when I think about how under handed it all was and how many people were taken for a ride

You can reply to this thread via SMS to 083....

SMS's cost R 10.00

The more you sms the higher up in the thread your message will appear.

terms and (cons) exist

The advertising complaint against MTN was upheld, and the complainants now have the chance to comment on whether sanctions against MTN are appropriate.

Of course sanctions are appropriate! In fact, we demand them! If there are no sanctions, the arrogance and complacency of MTN will continue. Something must be done to stop them. There must be accountability.

I say fine them for the full amount received for the competition, in addition to forcing them to refund each MTN subscriber for every last cent spent in this competion.

Then force them to give free airtime and/or minutes to every single MTN subscriber, as a token of apology and as a real 15th birthday gift.

Same here, I also want change providers but my contract only expires in 2011 because I renewed it at the end of last year. :(

Does anybody have any experience moving providers in the middle of contract. Is there any penalty? I'm dying to get off MTN for the way they have screwed me without any vaseline.

I hope they get hit with a FAT fine for this unethical MTN 15 competition.

The competition started on 30 April and was supposed to run over 15 weeks and finish on 9 September, but MTN decided to stop the competition prematurely saying that the debate surrounding the initiative was not in line with MTN’s values and detracted from the planned spirit of the game.

Spirit of the game? How about the spirit in which they rip off consumers?

BTW: I hear they don't give free minutes on their contracts anymore...they give airtime to the value of the contract...that's like prepaid!!!

looks like MTN's Birthday present was robbing people blind, would have been nice if a competition like this was free to MTN suckers, er, Customers.

Its been the worst cellphone contract I have ever owned and 2 years of complaints about no signal and dropped calls I cant wait to get away from mtn.

Good riddance

What a DAFT statement!!!

"No Sir, we don't want sanctions against MTN, but give us a percentage of the millions happily forked out by some of MTN's stupid customers..."

lol @mtn - what a quick way to make money.u shud learn that not all short cuts work.hahahahahahahahaha,ur lucky to get away with no fine and plenty milk in your pockets.

Just amazes me how brazen these cellular companies are getting. They hold dominance in the country, charge exorbitant interconnection fees and still it's not enough? :erm:

So to make sure they absolutely take everything, the run these absurd competitions. And it seems they always appeal to and hook those who can least afford it.

I would be good to see a mega million fine being imposed. Except they will probably find a way to recoup it from their customer base.
