MTN under scrutiny from Obama administration

what a load of bs. this years terrorists are next years freedom fighters. is sa we had to Rica our phones so that the government can keep a eye on us. so the phone company are forced to help them. if you are working for another country you abide by their rules.
if mtn acted unlawful they should be held liable. if they acted within policy and laws they should be ok.
 
MTN did was best for business at the time. If making bribes and giving the Iranian government equipment to monitor subscribers, is the best for the business, then why not? A lot of companies do that anyways around the world. Just that US has to prove that now.
 
This Irancell mess surely has to be more trouble for MTN Group than it is worth, and for SA, sanctions against MTN Group might have a big effect on MTN SA and for SA as a country.

IMHO MTN Group should be trying to sell off that 49% in Irancell, perhaps to Turkcell as part of an out of court settlement.

This whole thing smacks of bs,MTN needs to thread carefully to get out of it though as they may suffer under US pressure but they have definitely not done anything that 100's of fortune 500 companies have not already done......I dont see a reason why a SOUTH AFRICAN company should not be allowed to grow as big as some of the european/american big boys.....we all as south africans should support MTN's global drive.

Dont get me wrong I'm still upset at their ridiculous local pricing but that doesnt mean that you should be such a sell out,why dont you go to the USA or Israel if you like them so much what the hell are you doing here?:confused:

MTN has been paying bribes and doing dodgy business with them?
A court application has been brought the us courts?
The us have every right to do what they are doing.

Support Iran,wtf does that mean,sure I'm muslim but I'm sunni and they are shia....thats almost as different as christian and jew to us(not exactly but almost that much difference in beliefs) so if anything I have no affiliation to them AT ALL.

Amazing how Israel is always used as some justification for an argument for another countries actions in the middle east. Just around the corner you have Pakistan and India pumping out nukes without US interference (or their double standards as you put it) yet your use of Israel twice as an example, only makes me wonder about your feelings toward them.

P.s. my only point I'm trying to make is that Israel should have nothing to do with this argument. As far as Iran is concerned I believe the US should keep their noses out of their business, because these types of threats against countries or companies (like the MTN example in this article) is a US bullying tactic to force others to choose a side in a fight they have nothing to do with. The, "If you're not with us then you're with them" mentality.

The israel part of my argument is a personal note on MARINE1 and has nothing to do with the debate here at all,he has in several arguments vehemently defended ANYTHING PRO-ISRAELI OR PRO-US so hence my question why doesn't he move to one of those countries already?:confused:

Theres another thread here where he attacks vodacom even and says something to the effect of SA companies are doing illegal business etc,which leaves me with that same question over and over in my mind why is he still in this country if SA companies are so bad and everyone is so bad besides good ol USA and Israel.

So anyway.. For as far as I am concerned two wrongs does not make a right. And I detest the idea that one day I too may have to live in a police state. Although of course in the past what we have now would have been considered one. Big Brother used to be a bloody science fiction concept.

Yep I agree wholeheartedly,unfortunately sometimes governments do NEED to do these kinds of things for legitimate reasons,takes the UK's shutdown of bbm etc for a few days to get the riots under control...I believe that they even even arrested people based on information received from RIM.

Yeah that's always the part I don't get. Sane people will defend these crimes just because the perpetrators claim to be of the same religion. Then again I suppose you have to have balls of steel to question people who will torture and hang you for doing so.
