MTN warns Icasa over MTR price cuts

Not a bright way to go, all they are admitting is that they are a badly managed company that lacks the critical skills to have adequately planned strategically for the evolving landscape where voice revenues are in decline and termination rates naturally follow. If MTN can only deliver value to shareholders in an environment where they are shielded from competition by a licensing structure that undermines consumers then there is something seriously wrong with the management.

WTF!?!?!

Damn!!How I wish the public can vote with their wallets and leave MTN in droves.Totally speechless.

I was with MTN and left them for cell c, and yes the big guys do make lots of money but is this really going to benefit the end user ( US )?

Assuming that profits are stripped away from the network ( Big guys), would they not protect shareholders first and then protect the customer second? If this has hit the 2 large players who are profitable they both may let their networks age at the expense of the customer vs the 2 small players which are present are not profitable ( and from what I have heard they are very far from it ).

In the long term if the smaller players become profitable again this will be directed back to pay shareholders and then into networks or the will be absorbed / liquidated. If they do extremely well they become the big guy and one of the 2 move down.....

At the end of the day the market is saturated, I am sure, and so there is just base erosion taking place ( Other than data growth ) so surely as stated above we will end up being worse off??? Unless I have somehow missed something.

the current MTRs represent a fixed price that is significantly higher than what a free market would result in, the new prices are a little bit lower than what a free market would produce. In the end the continuation of price fixing and and the crony nature of the industry shafts the consumer but the new rates are better than the old and benefits everybody except for management of VC and MTN if they failed to plan properly.

If Cell C was Nandoes they would make an Add telling the whole SA that the Big 2 don't want to people to save money.......

Makes me think back on the time when they defended the high price of sms messages...

Now these days they give you unlimited sms messages on certain packages.

They will rationalise anything as long as it suits them...

They have been charging us an arm and a leg for the last 20 years and still do if it wasn't for the money they made here they would never have moved into the rest of the world so stuff them its time they give something back. It costs them next to nothing for us to send an sms yet they still charge us 70 - 85 c a message damn robbers.

Aint that what we've been saying all along?
