MTN Wifi calling on iPhone

I have also been experiencing issues with my WiFi calling for the past few days. It is very frustrating because the MTN signal is poor in my area, and it is almost impossible to get support from MTN.

No issues on my end after Sun

WiFi calling is dead once again. I give up.
I notified my ISP about terminating the service, and surprisingly, Wi-Fi calling began working. Consequently, I withdrew the cancellation, but now it's not functioning again.

Yes. It's fully functional now on MTN.

I've been having an argument with Network Coverage center people. I have very poor signal and the hope was Wi-Fi calling would help. However I've turned it off and on, using iPhone 13 - and i got a SMS saying:

HANDSET IN AIRPLANE MODE
2 TURN ON WIFI
3 Watch the top bar to see if
*€*MTN SA WiFi *€* starts to scroll
that*€*s the indication that
VoWiFi has activated
4 Receive and or make a call
to test the quality

The guy I spoke to says it doesn't work like this. There is no MTN WiFi carrier network and that it cannot work when you have airplane mode on - as per this sms. Now I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this guy is uninformed and propabably didn't read his documentation.

Is there anything I can try to get this to work. Avenues I can follow - I really want this functional where I am. ISP is Coolideas.

Check on the app if Roaming is turned off.

Might be a CI issue also. Some ISPs this wasn’t working with. Also remember you need to go to Settings > Mobile Service > Select your sim and make sure WiFi Calling is turned on.

iPhone 14 Pro on Afrihost and Voda + MTN VoFi working. Telkom isn’t working but it never has for me.

Thanks, yes it is turned on for sure. Even received a SMS as previously mentioned.

I've swapped to Afrihost connection to test. So far not seeing any luck. I'll be visiting my brother tomorrow and I know his vodacom vowifi is working - so perhaps see what it does on his wifi.

Turn WiFi Calling off and turn off your phone for 10 minutes and try again in the Afrihost Connection. It won’t stay on all the time, mine switches back to a mobile signal when it feels like it. iOS is weird like that

I'm on CISP, just switched on airplane mode and then WiFi - VoWifi is working fine on my end. On android though with Afrihost/MTN sim.

Just an update for anyone looking to get their Wi-Fi Calling (Apple iPhone) working on MTN.

Through pain and suffering of MTN's support I think I have the official answer. A gentleman with a bright mind looked at my account and noticed that the VoLTE service was not active. He advised that, while he is not sure of the exact reasons, it appears as though this service allow for general 'data-based voice calls' to function on the account via the carrier network. Thus it is required to be active, else Wi-Fi Calling will also not work.

By george..... I called the MTN Business Support as this is a business contract, they activated it and instantly MTNSA Wi-Fi started to show as the carrier network.

tldr; Ensure VoLTE service is active on your MTN account!

Hi, does anyone know if Wifi Calling works overseas? The website says no but then again it mentions Wifi Calling is Android only and works fine on our iPhone...

Is there any way to do this without calling in? I have WiFi calling working for my primary physical MTN sim, but it’s not working on my MTN eSim.

Wondering if there is some kind of code to dial to activate it?
Their website suggests VoLTE should activate automatically.

I mean is it really a problem to call them? Doesn't take that long…

I tried calling this morning and there is no menu option to actually speak to someone about technical questions. Even trying to get to the SIM swap team just played out some instructions and doesn’t give you an option to speak to someone :/

Will just go into a store I guess.

With MTN's prepaid service, there isn't a provision to connect with a human representative; instead, only automated voice prompts are available. I've explored all available options without success.
