It seems that MTN delivers wonderful advertising and salesmanship. But once the product or service has been sold and a problem, query or any other kind of incident. Once you have entered the problematic period, your life will become hell. Even if problems are arising in Ghana, they happen here to in South Africa. The occurrence of poor service is becoming like a plague. I believe that MTN does well purely through "advertising and sponsorship"(as mentioned in the article) and then prays that nothing goes wrong.

Also providers can gain momentum from word of mouth and the same can be said in their demiss

Actually, they've already shot themselves in the foot with their advertising. The whole 15th birthday lottery debacle which smacked of a Nigerian scam, still leaves a bitter taste in our mouths. And MTN haven't even apologised for it, nevermind giving something back to those who lost out. In fact, they continued to defend it, and continued to run it, even though the public backlash was so huge.

Now MTN's summer promotion/competition requires you to send an SMS, charged at standard cellphone rates, while Vodacom's summer promotion/competition has free entry! You don't even need to do anything. No SMS. Nothing. All you have to do is be a Vodacom subscriber, and you stand a chance to win..

MTN sucks. They're a disgrace to South Africa!
 
im just concerned MTN never actually acknowledge that its service levels went down,never apologise and never compensate#voda acknowldged its blackberry service was bad,apologised,fixt it and compesated some of its subscribers

Were their service levels EVER any good ?

I've always been flabbergasted that they seemed to be doing so well, even with their atrocious service, coming from way back.

The competition is a joke. There is no actual free money to be won. You enter and the money collected from the SMS = PRIZES.

Now to think that MTN was actual awarded for excellent service in November is hard to believe. I think that a company should stand by there MD's words otherwise go home and stop wasting peoples time.

MTN is a shame in Uganda

MTN is the only ISP that has not connected to SEACOM in Uganda. These guys are charging $1500 for a 256kbps link per month yet warid is charging $130 for the same bandwidth. Can you believe they are surviving on customer ignorance and some customers can not pull out because of agreements and initial connection fees. I pray the face the same fate Zain faced when the ripped off ugandans their had earned money
 
The previous company I worked for signed up with MTN Uganda. Fortunately we were able to include a QoS clause, which enabled the company the get out of the contrat without any penalty whatsoever... MTN Uganda was PATHETIC, and that was 4 years ago!
