Mtnvpn

Nice. I phoned them yesterday to activate the mtnvpn APN, still not working. How long does it take? And do you just have to change the APN name?
 
Took a few calls to the data call centre to get mine sorted. Yes have to change the APN to mtnvpn.

Ok, looks like I will have to call them again. How long does it normally take to activate? There's no username or password I have to use?
 
Yo, standard 24-48 hours I think. Ok my sim was in my router, so added the Mtnvpn to my list of APN on the router. Then kept selecting it until started working. No need for username and password.

Thanks, will give them till tomorrow and then call them again if it's not activated yet.
 
So I phoned them and they tell me wildcard has been activated. What is wildcard? Still can't connect with mtnvpn.

Isn't there a MTN rep here that give me a hand?

Any reason you need to activate this. Waiting for my two 50gb mtn contracts.

Still looking for a decent lte router.

You use it to connect from internet to your router (make vpn, port forwards to DVR etc.

Basically it give your device an external public ip address.

Can only get NAT3 with the Normal APN. Struggle with party chat and most games on PS4 with NAT3.

Same for Xbox one, need a open NAT to enjoy online games. Open NAT only achieved with the MTNVPN APN.
 
The best i got with the MTNVPN APN was NAT type 2, which wasn't as limiting as type 3 ( I could now get into gaming sessions online), but obviously not as great as an open NAT. If they have confirmed that your APN wildcard has been activated then dial 1555 and have them talk you through the settings on your router.
 
Wildcard had nothing to do with it apparently. Ended up phoning the MTN business helpdesk, at first the consultant said he could only help corporate customers but I explained to him the struggles I had with the other consultants and thankfully he felt pity on me and sorted it out . He also told me wildcard was only for the normal APN.

You can only get open NAT if you link straight to a pppoe connection, NAT 2 is the normal connection through a router.
