Mugging in traffic

you must ask yourself...what would she have done if it was someone else being mugged... probably the same as what everyone else did to her.

Who cares what she would have done? It's what someone *should* have done that matters. Criminals can now just brazenly rob people in the road... there's something very very wrong with that.

Very true, most people dont want to get involved

This country is really going down the tubes now. The criminals have the upper hand and they know it.

If i saw someone about to be a smash-and-grab victim, i would hit the perp with my car, maybe break a leg or a couple of ribs... make him remember not to do that anymore. :D

The more worrying question is, "what could they have done?" Here's the scenario:

You confront the thief. One of two things happen:

1. Thief realises the errors of his ways, apologises and buggers off.
2. Thief pulls a gun/knife or gets otherwise aggressive with you. You are forced to defend yourself. Now it's a "strong survives" situation. You or the thief will get hurt. Doesn't really matter who, because you will be the one getting into trouble because you started it, and the thief didn't actually steal anything (the fact that you stopped him is irrelivant). And of course, there are no witnesses.

At least, that's how it played out the last time I heard of someone taking action.

Correct. Except the problem with the witnesses is they aren't prepared to sit in a sif, uncomfortable maggies court the whole day only to be told the case has been postponed AGAIN and they should come back to waste another day in 3 months time
:(

You know the problem really is that the criminals have more rights than us... say you're sitting in the car next to her...you see this happening, get out your car, and blow the ass away... you go to jail.

No one in their right mind is going to get out of their car unarmed, and take on more than one person armed with gun(s). It's suicidal.

.
Nah they don't. But they tend to bite when you stomp them... which is a far scarier proposition

...
"I couldn't go anywhere I hooted but nobody did anything."

The youth then pulled out a gun and tapped the window with it.

"He said 'I'm going to f***ing shoot you'."

She handed over her cellphone, but refused his demand for her wallet and her car.

Exsctly what I was going to say, we should have the right to blow this scum away, then more people would take action.

Realistically what do people expect the bystanders to do?

I would not be able to stop myself from trying my damndest to run the bastard over, and failing that would probably be on an adrenalyn high and get out of me car and chase the bugger.

I'll probably be shot and killed, but such is my stupidity levels.

stoke, don't feel alone. My family is gun crazy. Everyone owns as many guns as they're legally allowed to. But none of them shoot much, if at all.

I love shooting. I'm pretty damn good at it too. I don't, however, own a gun. Why? Because if I did I would already have been in jail for ridding the world of scum like these roadside robbers.

Very true.
Don't forget the police (when they turn up) haven't seen what transpired before and may arrest you for assault. In fact they probably will. Not a thinking bunch the boys and girls in blue. Arrest first and ask questions later.

Well I don't mind getting arrested and then let go after the questions were asked. But in our beloved country you'll most likely still face criminal charges.
