Ali always claimed that Joe Louis was the greatest heavyweight fighter ever but I think he was being generous.
The rumble in the jungle was THE best boxing display I have ever seen, surpassing Sugar Ray Leonard vs Thomas Hearns.
Boxing aficionados when asked who would win between Ali and Tyson, the greatest boxer vs the greatest fighter both in their prime, overwhelmingly give the fight to Ali.

He might very well not be but he's still in that group and the air up there is very, very thin.
Thing with Ali is he was a phenomenon that transcended boxing. You'd be hard pressed discussing Louis, Robinson or Marciano as cultural icons and not just fighters... Ali, not so much.
Not as well regulated, the majority of state commissions were a joke, incredibly easier to fabricate ring records.
In those times it was very easy to fix matches.
Let's not forget Ali's "phantom punch" which saw Liston being felled as if he had been shot.
Liston, he of the menacing reputation and granite chin, lost that fight under incredibly suspicious circumstances.
I think you might have things the wrong way round.
But I do agree, as a heavyweight there was no one to hang with Ali in his prime. Even past his prime he was still damn good.
Liberals going out of their way to ignore his race realism, his racialism, and all his other anti liberal stances which he was very vocal about.

Apparently not that sharp if he thought that Hitler actually subscribed to Christianity.. a Jewish religion with Jewish values that worships a Jewish man as a God.
Actually he thought the reporter was an atheist.
Hitler wasn't an atheist either, so ?

We remember Ali as a boxer, not a social commentator - unless you want to delve into the personal beliefs and behaviour of every ' icon/hero/star that dies ?
That's certainly true for some people.
I don't know anything about boxing. Most people don't. I know more about his social commentary and his character.
I'm not criticizing his views, I'm criticizing liberals.
