Multi-Linking

Does any one know of any software that can multi-link ADSL Links, or a software product that can help with redundancy between two or more ADSL links. (if a link goes done, all traffic will be diverted to the remaining links, possible load balancing).[8D]Reply

As far as I know, you can't do it with ADSL directly.

But... *blink*, if memory serves me right, it can be done via VPN channels... Just a idea, as usual.

I'm sure you can create 2 dsl connection and then do load balancing of the connection using iptables. But i guess this still doesn't give you the redundancy that you want. And I'm not really sure why you would want to do this

You can't link two 512kb channels to form a 1024kb virtual channel (what multilinking does), without intervention from the "uplink" device - i.e. the device at telkom.

So you can stand on your head and rtfm on iptables untill you are blue in the face, you won't be able to link to get a 1mb circuit.

I agree savage but if you had two lines then you could do some nice load balancing. you still won't be able to receive one file @ 1024 kb but you should be able to do it with 2 files.

In my post I was not hinting that you could double your line speed. It was more eyed at redundancy...

Telkoms BW throtling is done on an IP basis, ie they don't throtle the actual line. If you check your modem stats you will see that you connect to the dslam at higher than 512 and 256, I connect at 4mbs and 600k respectivly.

So AFAIK you could put multiple nw cards in a machine and link them to form a single connection. I know this is possible through winxp. I don't know how efficiently this connection would work though.

Running XP on machine that have Internet connection.

As far as I was aware, the throtling is managed by the adsl router for the 512/256, and then by telkom/saix after the cap. I've tried using 2 different NICs and 2 different PCs, and I've not yet got more than I could using one connection.

I have three ADSL Lines using 3 Netgear DG814 's. All my PC's are connected to a switch as well as the 3 DG814's. I have three groups of people who need Inet connectivity, so each group uses one DG814 as their default gateway.

My Ideal scenario is that all three links can be shared and load balanced. So that in the event of a link failure, the other two links would be used, because currently I have to reset all the effected PC's gateways

JohnJames - have you tried adding a second router as a second gateway on the pc?

I have tried this already, but these are win98 machines, so they continue to go to the top listed gateway.
