MultiChoice denies SD content on HD channel

Just noticed the other night on hallmark channel the shocking quality of the old House season compared to the new one. the compression is so bad that it looks like an over compressed jpeg image. just an hour or so later the new house season shows and that is fine. Funny thing is I've seen the divx rip of the same old season and that looks even better than the dstv version.

Did they not mention something about bandwidth cuts in the news section a while ago to make place for new channels?


Any way if the quality is this bad on SD and HD viewers are also reporting similar issues then MC is "shaping" our connections to the satellite and have to compensate with reduced quality :p

Must have learned from telkom.....

Broadcasting in HD maybe from the PC where its stored and compressed like hell afterwards on the transmission side and they can still claim it was played back in HD so they speak truth???

Compression artefacts have been a big issue with NoChoice - since the days of PAS4. I remember the za.satellite newsgroup was always full of criticism about that and all the news channels ran at low bitrate - when some action came up on CNN/BBC World Service you got pixelation like mad.

Nonsense. HDCP doesn't encrypt. HDCP is an enabling flag. If it isn't present, no data will be output from the PVR. HDCP errors will result in absolutely no picture, not a degraded one.

Poor quality on the HD channel is due to poor source material or (more likely) over compression.

It works differently to BD players then. On BD players the picture is downgraded to 950i.

If the PVR finds a problem with HDCP, it stops output from the HDMI and indicates "HdcP" on the front panel.

What does that mean? Seems to me that could mean "yes, we've done it before but only because we couldn't get the HD content out"

LOL, but they managed to get the SD version on time? Dont they travel together, lol. And in this day and age, surely they get the media digitally. Do they wait an hour before the show and then try get the media?

Sigh, i would be so angry if i had HD and was getting my signal in SD "sometimes". k, so sometimes i will pay my whole DSTV bill. What a load of udder poop.
