MultiChoice enhances DStv

Yeap there's alot of channels out there...nevermind that it was nice to get free Dstv yesterday...everything was free...lol remember in 2006 i had weeks of it

BBC Entertainment:

The channel most recently launched in Poland, on Cyfrowy Polsat in December 2007, and will replace BBC Prime on DStv in Africa on September 1st, 2008.

Those channels should have been added on the Free-To-Air Vivid bouquet from Sentech, where GoodHope and a lot of other stations are. But now I have to get DSTV to be able to listen to them. Sucks balls

Why would I want to browse away from a TV station onto a Radio station when I could simply flip the switch on my stereo?

Some of those station are not available in all regions of South Africa. Like Highveld is not available in CPT, and KFM not outside the Western Cape.

Of course not. I would find it "weird" to listen to a Pretoria station if I live in Cape Town and visa versa

There are a lot of people in other parts of the World and Africa who appreciate being able to get these stations however they can.

There was a lady on Highveld this morning who was raving about the fact that she can now listen to Highveld via DSTV in Botswana.... in fact, that is what Highveld's daily "Global High" is all about. Listeners in other parts of the world dedicate a song to ppl in South Africa.

But what if you were an ex-pat living in Zambia and you wanted a little taste of home?

yep - pity we don't get satellite radio here... you need decoders and a tv set

We do get Worldspace satellite radio. They don't have so many SA stations though, only East Coast Radio and Jacaranda AFAIK. But they have Virgin Radio UK which is really good.

The extra stations give more choice really - if I don't like the breakfast show on one station there's more to choose from now.

How about BBC Radio 1 , that's something allot of South African would listen to.

The original story continues a misconception about the BBC radio channels available on the DSTV audio bouquet. Sadly, the 'BBC Radio 1, 2 and 3' it mentions is not the UK domestic service -- it is only different flavours of more or less the same international (shortwave) BBC World Service, in English, English for Africa, and African Languages.

Given the often-appalling quality of our own radio, it would indeed be truly splendid to get some quality domestic BBC radio services, particularly the wondrous BBC Radio 4 -- but at least if we're willing to pay the data charges, we can get its excellent stream on the web (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/progs/listenagain.shtml), either live or by hand-picking your own choice of programming.
