Multichoice gifts raise industry ire

Several legislators and government officials have received gifts from Multichoice, which some in the broadcasting industry have called a conflict of interests and a bid to influence the outcome of the digital migration policy due to be gazetted by Communications Minister Dinah Pule before the end of December.

The fact that it is legal for these officials to receive 'gifts' by private individuals, and companies shows that the system is fundamentally corrupt.

Karen Willenberg, Multichoice’s official on the digital migration policy, denied that gifts such as Fifa World Cup tickets, accommodation and flights were given to influence government officials.

Pull the other one. It smacks of corruption no matter how it is viewed. And now they defend it... Why am I not gob smacked.

Exactly.

This is nothing but ILLegal tenders so that Multichoice can continue to rape us with their crazy prices and garbage service. 2012 and they have like 5 HD channels with crappy snydicated shows pulled in from the Middle East feeds. Completely pathetic.

This how they can remain as a true monopoly(TopTV is way behind in everything).

Typical Multichoice, no-one should be surprised, Multichoice is completely corrupt.

This is not limited to Multichoice of course.

Across the board of industry and government this happens.

I'm not surprised.
Corruption yet again.
Or to put it another way:

This is Africa, we do things differently here.

But its ok, soon we will have the secrecy bill to protect us from having to hear about this sort of thing.

Everyone knows all corporates dish out gifts to clients / would-be clients & in fact anyone with whom they would like to build or further their relationship. I dont feel there there is anything wrong with this providing the gifts are within a company's product portfolio.

MTN dishing out phones - fine
SAB dishing out the beer - ok
British American Tobacco - free smokes for all - cool
Multichoice - decoders & free subs - ok

Multichoice - air travel / hotel accomodation / ipads & so on - uh uh - not right !!

If these gifts are influencing the people in their decision making then they are definitely cheap to buy.

MultiChoice

MultiChoice wont like being got at.
If you have ever used their forum you will know if you dare criticise them you are heavily moderatored and censored for future posts and then blocked.
They always say "Our T and Cs don't allow it) No one dare have ago at this corrupt organisation
One of the moderators "MC Marietjie" is at the moment wetting her knickers laying down the law on what can happen on her threads.
Her lastest comment is " It is MCs forum and we will choose what goes on it"
When I compare other Sat distrubutors with similar data bases of customers I can only say at R600 a month MC are making a killing at out expense
Thank God for Slingbox and BBC/ITV/Ch 4 etc i players to give me my TV from the UK. Well worth the 12 rand a week for the proxy address. At less than 50 quid a month its far cheaper than MC at R600 a month with endless repeats. What's more I get more HD progs from the UK in a day than MC provide in a week and the picture on 42inch LCD is as good. (Oh yes I do pay a UK Licence at less than R2000 a YEAR for all this)
