A Multichoice employee dropped a hint that the DSTv HD PVR Decoders might be launched in August for the Olympic games.

Multichoice thinks HD means Huge Dild0, thats why they're so desperate to get it running... Even more milking of the public.
 
I'd bet a beer that this is correct. Would be perfect selling point!
 
nice thing is that you can record 2 channels and watch one and record 1 watch 2. they wont have much in hd to start with but hey, its better than nothing!!! i, for one, cant wait.

they have also mentioned that the hd pvr would cost more or less the same as the current pvr. so i think perhaps around R3500.
 
I've held off on buying the current PVR for this exact reason. Waiting for the release of the HD one.
 
howmuch would a normal HD Multichoice decoder cost ?? (non-pvr)

Current decoders can only do SD signal.
 
i havent seen any mention of a non-pvr HD model. i dont think they will have such a model when HD launches.

Quite a clever marketing point as this will show a big fat toffee to the Media Centre guys and the like who don't own a Multichoice PVR.

"You want HD content, then buy our HD PVR decoder, hahahahahaha"

hmm... seems i misunderstood something. the new decoder is view 1 channel, record 2 channels ONLY. so it's not dualview. but you can link the current PVR or DSD1110 to the HD decoder should you wish to make use of a dual view facility. this will be in SD. also HD cables cant be too long.
 
i want to see the hard-drive on the so called HD PVR recorder <---- lol

HD content aint small. I'm guessing it will be 720p. normal 45min tv-episode might record to anything from 750mb-1.2gigs or more.

If we talking 1080p content, try around 12gig for a 90min movie :>

well, it will be 720p content due to satellite bandwidth constraints. perhaps later will we get 1080p. afaik most countries are on 720p.

Apparently the video output from the decoder will be protected using hdcp. so the media centre guys are really screwd.
