MultiChoice reaches 2 million subscribers

You can just see and smell that candle of competition burning their butts.

Are we supposed to be impressed by this figure? In a country with over 40 million people and on a continent with a huge multiple of that, I would not be slapping myself on the back.

If they had a reasonable priced product I am sure that their subscriber base could be 10 times what it currently is.

Do the math: 2 million subscribers at R 400 (thumbsuck figure for comparative purposes) a month equates to R 800 000 000, whereas 20 million subscribers at R 100 equates to R 2 000 000 000.

Yes there is still the cost of the dish and the decoder, but with that sort of turnover they could subsidise the cost of these.

Hell they could do what the cell operators do in this country and tie people into 12 or 24 month contracts and give the hardware away "free"

I personally don't think that it is anything to write home about.

The 2m figure is for the whole of Africa. What strikes me as odd is that they target their services at people who cannot afford it.

The headline should read....
