That could apply to their satellite as well and it doesn't look like they need to do it. There's only a small group that want their streaming so no use trying to scale it and a cheaper offer could actually eat into their satellite as well.
 
Wow this took a year to put together. Sounds like a government department has done it. What is the difference between this and using your dad's account?
 
Does existing premium subscribers keep both and that only new customers must choose satelite or streaming.

If they remove it from the current premium package, then they dead in the water.

Anyone have any figures regarding the number of DSTV Now streamers?
 
It's doubtful that DStv will.be able.to have the streaming quality and bandwidth required.

Unless they invest heavily in those cloud services like Netflix (using Amazon) they won't do well imo.
 
DStv's entrance into standalone streaming was supposed to be the company's resurgence, hitting the market with a sizable bang. Any set of monthly rates, leading up to as much as R599 potentially, would have been fine.

Instead, DStv has shown that it is fundamentally unable to move with the times and will die off sooner or later.
 
Come on guys They(DSTV) have given us a least some choices either into the frying pan or out on the fire.

Pretty much what I was gonna say.

Gonna be interesting as they will be seen as taking away a service without adjusting price and if they try and claim it’s covered by non-increase they also indicate “value”.

LoL they heading straight for a wall at 180km/h, best to stand back and eat popcorn as I know many that buy and share password to cut cost by 50% . Ie one uses satellite other uses streaming.. now they will lose both
 
One thing I will say is that DStv would have been good on those days when you couldn't go outside because it was raining. Problem was that when it was raining the satellite connection was always choppy so you couldn't use their service. This solves that problem about a decade too late. Like others have said, you can now be enslaved to repeats at the time they set the viewing or you can watch what you want, binge a whole season if you want, on demand from another service which is cheaper and probably has far more content options that you actually want.

Besides current affairs, sport and the latest season of reality trash that studios are still producing TV is basically dead.

They should create a stand alone streaming service for less than R500. That would be the way. And start phasing out satellite services if it is more expensive to run. They are trying to compete with Netflix but with a massive premium on the price.

How is this different than what Netflix offers, except for live sport? When that streaming only is officially launched I will check that price on their website and then check Netflix's price and compare them regarding content and price. I will probably then choose Netflix and not DSTV, so they are competing for the same market.

Being South Africa, DSTV can have a DSTV Now Now package that isn't 1 minute behind. Slap a R99 fee on it of course
 
Heading is totally misleading, should be you can now choose to change from satellite to streaming or vice versa.

There is no benefit on this, but more costs as you will have to fork out for fibre.

What a load of bollocks!!! Can't believe they offering this. Where on earth did they do their market research?? Who on earth thought this would be acceptable? . If they thought they would win back their market by offering this rubbish, then they need to fire some idiots. It is just pure greed overtaking rational thought.
 
Mybroadband should do a survey on what people think of this. It would be interesting to see how people feel
 
Wouldn’t it make more sense to package this with an uncapped fibre line.

Pay R1000 a month, get uncapped fibre and streaming service.
