I agree, 12 DVD's a month rental and capturing it for my later enjoyment is enough for me.
 
Just have to get one that does then.

This is all very nice and dandy, but tell me this mr Multichoice CEO Letele, when are you bringing back the ScoFi channel? Whats the use of skipping ads if the bits between the ads is also as dull as dishwater? Whats the use of taping E! Entertainment while watching paint dry on the home improvement channel? We want to watch Sci-Fi while taping the Comedy channel! Give us real choice man!
 
I dont see the point in complaining about skipping ads by justifying it with more dvd rentals....I havent rented a dvd in the last month where you could skip the mandatory "trailers", copyright notices and other fluff they insist you watch. Just check out a disney dvd, and you will find most of them have about 5-10 minutes of trailers before the main movie, and they are not skippable (well....not without some knowledge)

PVR's are way cooler than you can imagine when implemented correctly (my opinion based on using pc type htpc/pvr solutions). Ad skipping is the no1 requested feature, and most often the feature they wont implement directly, but most of them have a ff 30sec. type button...works a treat...
 
I will completely bypass this fantastic opportunity.

Yes, when implemented correctly in a 1st world country where monopolies are NOT tolerated!

Over ADSL.... sorry to be the pessimistic weasel here but the cap has to go before this is a reality or do they expect us to watch stamp-sized video?
 
erm...nobody said the pvr is going to use broadband...did they?
So, multichoice or whomever launch a pvr, with a bit of a hard drive in it, and you get to record a show or two when you are out swimming or braaing or walking the dogs.

Exactly how does this impact your adsl?

I think you got your wires crossed with the IPTV statement
 
PVR would be cool, and I'm sure if they adopt a technology like TiVO which is used all over the US, we'll be able to "mod" it to ad the feature easily (unless it's physically controlled from Multichoice)

I wonder how much it would be?

Read the original post again. No seriously... especially the part about the broadcasting over ADSL trials launching in august part.... mkay?
 
PVR !=adsl broadcast.

IPTV=adsl broadcast (stamp sized video probably as you need a 100k minimum stream to watch semi-decent not pixellated to hell pal 720x576 tv)

PVR= normal aerials and a digibox with a harddrive, it doesnt have to be near a phone line or adsl or ethernet connection to show pictures/movies or pause the tv.

*grin*. ... ive had my own PVR running for the past 3months or so. As a soccer sport nut... would NOT be able to live without it!!

*Windows Media Center
*Microsoft Remote Control

I have my dstv guide imported thanx to http://epgrunner.net

Being able to record full series and pause and rewind live tv... is astonishing!! ... fashion tv has never been the same...uhm soz i mean #23 soccer channel.

PS: yes werner is correct.... u only need a dsl connection or whatever connection to update your tv guide.
