DStv owner's do-or-die plan completely backfires

Nearly three years ago, MultiChoice revealed that its strategy was to transform its video streaming service Showmax into its growth engine, a gambit which has spectacularly failed.

With the company’s linear pay-TV subscriber base at DStv and GOtv in decline and facing an existential threat from global players like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, it went for broke.

Competition is too strong in the space and they have next to nothing to set their offering apart.

Tried watching the Carabao Cup last night via Showmax. They only started the feed about 5 minutes into the game.
Not a good look when trying to compete with other providers

Canal+ has a chance to set things right, something Dstv was never going to achieved because they refused to accept that their business model was their biggest obstacle, they have denied their own complicity since the year after M-net aired for the first time and the complaints had already started.
