How else do you explain things costing around 30% more than a country like ours further from most suppliers (e.g. electronics etc.).
Doesn't matter when everything is so bloody expensive.
It's quite possible that's the case now with the recent ZAR hikes.
Eh I had doubts but it's been great live close to the beach, walking distance between two pubs.A bump in salary?
I guess that is appealing to some.
Sand and 50C though... nah thanks.
Have you checked out the cost of living index in Dubai?Look at their packages increase.. for that I would also move.
So you would live in Dubai just to travel to Africa? You do know Dubai is a major international travel hub? So yes, it’s much easier to travel around Africa from Dubai than it is from SA.
Wasn't the case when I was there -- twice two years ago.Electronics are cheaper here than SA.

And the african and russian prossies are geat conversationalistsEh I had doubts but it's been great live close to the beach, walking distance between two pubs.
Having a pretty good time.
It's what you suggested, being a hub for Emirates and all. But I understand if you want to take it back, we're all human and we all make mistakes. That’s not what the post said.

It's your argument that I picked up on. But no worries, if I lived in Dubai I'd also want to travel anywhere else (where they have proper bacon, pork sausage / belly / ribs / neck ), preferably for a very long time.Nope. Nothing to take back. It’s as easy to travel to Africa from Dubai as it is from Africa itself. Personally I’d prefer Emirates over SAA anyway. Don’t see why that’s an issue.

some things are cheaper, some are more. Hard drives for instance works out the same, Apple products are cheaper (less the tax etc). I find they don’t have the variety of high end equipment, like they’ll only sell the prosumer headphones, that type of thing.Wasn't the case when I was there -- twice two years ago.
At the two establishments where I was living I was served Macon, which is some disgusting stuff that is lying about being bacon. We do have proper pork products, it's just as good as SA especially the British butcher I get from.
And you get plenty SA meat aswell so don't really have to go anywhere.

I love hearing peoples reasons for disliking a place! Bacon is hilarious!! I’ve had some pretty decent pork in the Emirates, also camel. If you stayed in hotel yeah they serve Macon and turkey bacon.
It's just silly to think you can't have bacon, you don't even have to look that hard.
That's yet another problem with Dubai, miss your turnoff on the interchange and it takes you months to get to the next one to turn around.I love hearing peoples reasons for disliking a place! Bacon is hilarious!! I’ve had some pretty decent pork in the Emirates, also camel.
Dubai has a lot going for it. It’s an amazing city, beautiful and huge. Makes coming back to SA really noticeable how we have zero growth here. Literally we are limping along. I saw whole highway interchanges for up in 2 months where we have similar projects here spanning over years.
It’s a place that doesn’t tolerate mediocre.
